Location & Itinerary

On our first day we will be walking in the fantastic valley of Ennerdale, arguably the quietest and most peaceful in the whole of the Lake District. The shorter walk will take in the circuit of tranquil Ennerdale Water and make its way right up the very wild Scottish-glen-like valley to the foot of the imposing Pillar!  Meanwhile the longer walk will climb high up on the north side of Ennerdale, taking in such delights as Great Bourne, Starling Dodd and Red Pike which provides one of the most tremendous panoramas in the lakes overlooking many of the Lakeland Giants and Buttermere and Ennerdale too!

The Sunday offers us the chance to explore either the Grasmoor Fells and the Vale of Crummock Water, or venture into the amazing Wasdale where we could enjoy the truly wonderful delights of Scafell, Scafell Pike, Great Gable or the amazing Pillar Round. Of course both of these valleys are absolutely stunning and also offer low level walking adjacent to the lakes, some gentle lower level fells, picture perfect Lakeland hamlets and villages complete with traditional country inns, so let’s just see what the weather’s like then head off for some fun!!!

Our final day will be in the Loweswater and Crummock Water area, another hidden treasure of the Lakes! The longer walk will take in the little known but incredibly impressive Melbreak, which rears steeply above Crummock Water and the Kirkstile Inn, and offers lovely views towards the beautiful head of Buttermere. The short walk is no less delightful and is indeed a personal favourite of the guides and is an excellent introduction to the Loweswater valley by walking a balcony path with great views above the valley, and then returning by the lake shore itself. To allow you to get back at a reasonable time to head back home one of the Monday walks will finish around 2.30pm whilst the other walk will end around 4pm.

Remember on each day WalkWise UK will provide a minimum of two walks on each day, so you can choose how you are feeling on the day and select the walk that suits you best! These walks will be led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On all days there will be a harder walk of 10 or more miles with 2000+ft of ascent, and a gentler walk of 6-9 miles with less ascent.  All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the walk starts.

Is this for me?

Walkwise will offer two walks on each day, led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On each day there will be a harder walk of 10 or more miles with 1,500ft+ of ascent, and a gentler walk of 6-9 miles with less ascent.

All walks are weather dependent and subject to change.

Travel Insurance: It is also recommended that when travelling on holiday or attending Spice weekends away in the UK or overseas that you have adequate travel insurance in case of emergency, cancellation, etc. Travel insurance is an important aspect to booking a weekend or holiday, giving you protection against unforeseen circumstances. While we cannot recommend specific insurance policies as everyone’s requirements are personal to them, Spice have linked up with market leader Staysure Travel Insurance which you may like to take a look at.
