Early Afternoon Walk with Debbie: Astley Point to Leigh and Back
Overview
Join Debbie and Reginald (the cockapoo!) on a pleasant & sociable, socially distanced walk along the Bridgewater Canal along to Leigh returning via the same route.
Once nearing Leigh we will pass derelict historical buildings including the Butts Bridge and Corn Mill. This building was erected in 1831 to deal with grain imported from North America. The grain was shipped to Liverpool and then taken away on the Leeds-LIverpool and Bridgewater canals to the corn mills.
We also pass the old Weaving sheds, Bedford Mill and Stanley Mill originally built in 1835 as a muslin receiving house which ultimately was used for housing looms to weave cloth.
We stop at the Waterside Inn on the canal just past Leigh for well-earned Alfresco refreshments before setting off back on the same path returning to Astley Point for an optional outdoor drink.
