Overview

Join us for one of Anne's morning walks around the countryside to the north of Manchester

The walk will be 6 miles, 2 and a half hours, no lunch stop, just 1 or 2 quick drink stops along the way. From the car park we can see Darwen Tower on top of the Moor, but our walk today does not go that high, we climb gently uphill to Earnsdale Reservoir, down through Sunnyhurst Woods and up over the golf course, all with some lovely views. Mostly good paths, some patches of muddy field and woodland tracks. Some ascents and descents but not steep, some steps, one stile. Medium pace, slower uphill, back at the cars at around 1pm.

Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are ok but must be on a lead in places.

Toilets: There are public toilets outside the Cafe. Please be back in time ready for the walk to start at 10.30am prompt

Optional: Optional lunch or cuppa afterwards in the Cafe or pub, both are in the car park.

Getting There

From M65 J3 take A675 south through Abbey Village; after approx 3 miles through moorland, turn very sharp left at the sign for Tockholes.

From Bolton take A675 north through Belmont; after approx 2.5 miles through moorland, turn right at the sign for Tockholes.

- There may still be a sign opposite the turning for "Ramblers Country Cafe".

- From turning into Tockholes Road, ignore car park on left; follow winding road for approx 1.5 miles until you see car parking spaces on the right in front of a bus stop. At the end of those spaces, turn right into the car park entrance just before the Royal Arms beer garden, and go to the far end to park (the front spaces belong to the pub.). Car Park is free.

Anne's car is a pale blue Fiesta reg starting PG21.

Meet at 10.20am in front of the low stone building where there is a Cafe, with Roddlesworth Information Centre notice board outside and picnic tables around. The walk starts at 10.30am prompt.
