Overview

Join us for one of Anne's morning walks around the countryside to the north of Manchester.

The walk will be 5-6 miles, just over 2 hours walking, with no lunch stop. The first half is uphill to the Wainwright memorial, where there are amazing, far views in all directions, weather permitting, including Darwen Tower, Pendle Hill, Blackpool Tower, and the new oil-drilling platform past Southport. Mostly good paths and tracks, some stony woodland paths which may be very muddy. Some long ascents and descents, some steps, some stiles. Medium pace, slower uphill, back at the cars about 12.45pm.

This walk is suitable for well-behaved dogs but they must be on a lead.

Toilets: There are no toilets at the start, but the toilets should be open at the running track pavilion cafe after about 15 minutes walking. M65 Services are off Junction 4 (Darwen), accessible from all directions.

Optional visit: to pavilion cafe afterwards, about 15 minutes walk from the cars. The cafe is basic but ok, they do cuppa and nice bacon butties etc, all reasonable prices, plus ice-cream. Or for a more substantial lunch there is The Clog and Billycock pub about 5 minutes drive away.
