Overview

Join us in discovering Northampton’s hidden treasure located just a mile or so from the town centre. Delapré Abbey is alive with the possibilities of the present and surrounded by the echoes of the past. Located within the 500 acre beautiful and varied landscape of Delapré Park, in the county of Northamptonshire you can explore the gardens and parkland whilst enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the countryside.

Delapré Abbey is ideally located just 1 mile from Northampton town centre and 5 minutes from the M1.

History: Threatened with destruction many times during its 900 year history, Delapré Abbey has managed to survive and has recently been part restored with support from Northampton Borough Council, devoted volunteers and a £3.65 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Guided Tour: We have organised a guided tour from one of their expert volunteers. You will experience tales of the Abbey told across five storytelling zones, you’ll investigate unexpected views, strange doorways and eccentric architecture and make your own memories in a building brimming with history. The tour is expected to last 1 – 1.5 hours dependent upon how many questions you ask.

The Orangery Café: After the tour we will head to the onsite café for some lunch which will be an additional cost on the day if you have not pre-paid for the two course lunch..

After lunch we will resume with a guided tour of the beautifully landscaped gardens. This is expected to last 30 minutes. After this you will have free time to take in the sights at your leisure.

We can make a full day of this visit as there is no time restriction. There is also a shop onsite we can visit for any special purchases for memorabilia of our visit.
