Overview

Overview: This years Easter break with Steve and Arlene Dell is a walking and social weekend in Bournemouth, Swanage and the South Coast.

This weekend will appeal to both social walkers who want shorter walks and more serious walkers who want longer ones as on at least one of the days there will be the option of a longer or shorter walk. The walks range from easy to moderate, as some will have more gradients than usual with Steve, which gives the area its wonderful scenery, but we will take our time and admire the stunning scenery.

There is also plenty to do for non walkers or if you want to mix & match walking with social / tourist stuff. Bournemouth has a wonderful seafront and is a great seaside town with lots to explore, as well as many visitor attractions in the wider area.

We stay at Marsham Court hotel, East Cliff, near the main pier. There are some sea view rooms.

The walking programme

On two of the days, we will be making the most of the area with coastal walks.

One of the coastal days, we will walk from the hotel along the sea front and coastal path to the pretty Hengistbury Head, which is a dramatic headland near Christchurch Harbour. It is an outstanding site for wildlife and archaeology and offers beautiful beaches and stunning views. This walk can be between 5 and 9 miles.

Another coastal day, we will organise a coach to drop us off in Studland. We will walk the coastal path along Studland Bay and into Studland and then onto Old Harry Rocks, (three chalk formations, including a stack and a stump, located at Handfast Point). We then make our way to Swanage along the Purbeck Way and Ballard Down. This walk is 7 miles with the option to do a little more in Swanage.

Another great walk is the Purbeck Hills from Corfe Castle walk. The walk will be around 5 to 6 miles and will have the option to visit the lovely Corfe Castle and Corfe village afterwards.

The social après walking: Dinner will be at the hotel each night; Steve will do a welcome chat around 9:00 on the Friday where he will go through the plans for the weekend. Steve is looking into the option of a quiz on one of the nights if we can get a function room. Any of the nights we also have the option to go into town to explore the nightlife.
