Overview

After a couple of extremely successful New Year breaks in Italy we return but this time to a brand new destination as we head for Venice.

It is said that the way you spend your New Year sets the tone for the rest of your year, so what could be better than spending this New Year as you truly mean to continue, by having fun in a Venetian Villa and joining Spice on a truly incredible journey, with new experiences and unique palaces to stay and discover.

The magic of Christmas will still be alive and on this journey you will discover hidden places, not only experiencing perhaps one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Venice but also the town of Mirano where you will be staying in a stately home, a majestic Venetian Villa - Villa Giustinian. This villa has been chosen for its ideal location, and granting a beautiful setting with the option to relax in a home from home environment. The “Villa Giustinian” is a majestic Venetian Villa, with its opulent hanging Murano Glass Chandler's, made locally, and the grand Steinway piano in the hallway, just waiting to be played.

This journey grants the opportunity to dip in and out of Venice as a traveller on foot and as a sailor in an exclusive private Venetian Galleon, which we are sure fo some this unique once in a life time experience will truly be where the magic lies. You will experience downtown Venice, a New Year’s Eve Venetian Masquerade Gala set in the grounds of Villa Giustinian, New Year’s Day sailing exclusively around the Laguna of Venice in your very own private Venetian Galleon, exclusive to Spice, with a sit down meal and much more .

Our friends at WingsItaly, Claire and Andrea have put together a unique experience, not only opening up Venice, but granting you all the opportunity to see and experience the beautiful little known town of Mirano, normally not on the tourist path. As always it’s a journey of discovery, new places, new experiences and your home is an 18th century Venetian Villa just minutes away from the historical town of Mirano.

Location & Itinerary

What’s in store

Day 1: Arrival at Marco Polo airport where you will have a meet and greet then it’s a short private transfer to Mirano, Veneto, Approx. 20 minutes. Upon arrival at the Villa check in, relax .then it’s your first evening meal which will include a set traditional Italian meal accompanied by local Veneto wines. After your evening meal, maybe a nightcap (or two!) in the bar at the Villa, or, off to bed, ready for the journey and days ahead.

Day 2: After breakfast, private transfer approx. 20 minutes to the public water station, Venice water bus, once on the water bus it’s straight into San Marco, approx. 20 minute transfer by water. Arrival in San Marco and it’s free time to explore Venice, maybe a gondola ride, shopping, markets, museums it’s all at your feet. It’s a free day to explore and maybe an opportunity to buy your mask, 1000’s to choose from prices range from 5.00 to 5, 000 Euros (or bring your own from home!).

Venice brings you everything, romance, iconic architecture, wonderful attractions, and a fantastic selection of amazing things to see and do, it’s a perfect city for those looking for culture, cuisine and or simply soaking up history along the way. Your water bus ticket also provides you the option to travel over to the islands of Venice. E.g. the famous “Island of Glass” Murano. Take a gondola ride under the many picturesque bridges and through the narrow canals, listening to the paddles gently rippling through the waters. Stop off to admire the ornate palaces, art and culture lovers will find plenty.

Of course St. Mark's Basilica dominates the Piazza San Marco, and is packed with Byzantine, Gothic and Romanesque artworks. Canals replace roads, no cars, and it’s truly a city full of 100 islands, cut in half. You could easily – and happily – spend hours getting lost among the islands, passageways, bridges and squares but please don’t get lost because you are meeting up for a bespoke private tour of a once Venice Monastery. Lunch or dinner will be taken in Venice tbc nearer the time.

Say arriverderci to the Venice, return to the main land, where your privates transfer awaits, taking you back to your villa.

Day 3 New Year’s Eve: After breakfast relax and or take a leisurely walk into the historical town of Mirano, the shops, boutiques, Christmas, New Year local markets will be alive and it’s a quaint unspoilt town off the beaten track . You are of course free to return to Venice at your own expense, easily accessible by public transport on the doorstep s of the Villa.

The town “Mirano” is known for its splendid Villas and those ancient Venetian noble families of the 16th & 17th centuries chose it as their preferred place of refuge getting away from the hustle and bustle of Venice, and it’s here that they built their holiday homes – it’s full of sumptuous Villas ! Hence Mirano is known as giving birth to the ‘Venetian villa culture'. Many of these beautiful villas can be viewed along the sides of the roads and or in the public parks. Mirano is a perfect place to discover, shopping boutiques and local culture.

Whatever you decide to do on the last day of the year, please don’t be late because at 7- 15 pm it’s an Aperitivo Reception taken in the main residence of the Villa ready for the formal Ball (black tie, cocktail dresses and masks!) and maybe some Tabarros at the ready, the piano coming alive to entertain you. After your aperitivo, it’s a short walk into the gazebo which is set in the grounds of the Villa, where your evening New Year’s Eve Gala (menu tbc), will commence. The focus of the menu will be local and will include several courses, water and wines will be flowing during the meal. Of course there will be a few surprises along the way! After a full night of cuisines and dancing, there is an option to head for the bar or ‘carriages’ straight to bed!

Day 4 New Year’s day Venetian style on a Galleon: After a leisurely breakfast, and depending on times tbc your private Venetian Galleon is setting sail and on-its way to collect you. The Venetian Galleon will be sailing past San Marco to a local port nearby and it’s here you will board, setting sail back to the Laguna of Venice, with fine dining ,wines and a stop off , TBC.

The Galleon is a 16th century replica, you will be sailing like ancient Venetians in the waters surrounding Venice and is exclusive to Spice, simply navigating amongst the waters with a timeless atmosphere - overlooking some of the most historical and magnificent views of the longest Republic ever! There is a planned stop off included, tbc for sure the atmosphere will be centred on the galleon with a party atmosphere, unlimited fun, water, coke, lemon soda, beer, wines and Prosecco all included . The Venetian Galleon was launched in 2010 it is certified by RINA Class (European Leg. Decree), there is a heating system, a hardtop covering for the winter months, toilets and accessibility for all persons of reduced mobility is available.

Day 5: After breakfast, depending on flight times it’s time to say arriverderci to the Villa, WingsItaly, Mirano and looking forward to 2020! Private transfers back to the nearby airport.

Venice is full of winding back streets, bridges, stairs and no cars, only boats, walking is the best way of seeing the city. For those who have experienced WingsItaly prior, their emphasis is not on seeing things, but on experiencing them, which is sometimes the best way to feel a city, so spontaneity is essential to fully absorb this journey and it’s open to everybody!  There is a strong emphasis on local cuisines, history and for sure trying Venetian specialties.

As Venice is a city on the sea, seafood plays a large part in Venetian cuisine. Including Bacall manteco (a creamy cod dish served with polenta), sarde in saor (sardines marinated in a sweet-and-sour sauce) Risotto Nero, which is stained black with squid ink. Of course WingsItaly will cater for those who prefer not to eat fish, and other options will be available. So, it’s time to pack those masks, gowns, Tabarros and look forward to an exciting and unique New Year adventure!
