Overview

Building upon the success of the wonderful Romanian and Bulgarian trips our annual September walking holiday is to the ‘Pearl on the Adriatic’ - Montenegro. This sophisticated holiday destination is based in Tivat one of the hottest spots in the Mediterranean, home to a new modern marina for luxury yachts - Porto Montenegro.

Our base is the lovely 4-star Magnolia Hotel very close to the shores of the majestic Tivat Bay. Situated in the heart of diminutive Tivat, on a large pedestrian square with fountains, surrounded by boutiques and lounge bars, it is only a few minutes away from the waterfront promenades, Pine square and Porto Montenegro marina. Our hotel boasts a state-of-the-art 400m2 wellness centre and gymnasium where we can relax should we have time. The cool restaurants and bars in the hotel top off a wonderful base for exploring this special region.

Tivat Bay links into another bay the Unesco world heritage site the Bay of Kotor another picture-perfect bay also offering charming sea-scape vistas. We’ll be walking all around both of them….stunning. Then perched high over the Adriatic is the beautiful Lovćen National Park. It has been said ‘it’s more beautiful than the Alps, but we’ll be there to contrast and not to compare. So, come with us and after a hard day amongst the mountains we’ll be free to sip cocktails and watch the sunsets amidst the cafes, restaurants, shops and bars.

Location & Itinerary

Walking around the Adriatic coast.

We have a splendid itinerary based in and around the Boka region and the Boka Kotorska bay. Our aim is to initially enjoy the local isthmus of Vrmac nestled in between Kotor and Tivat looking across to Luštica and a plethora of bays which lead to the Adriatic Sea. Next, we’ll make a sojourn to the beautiful Kotor Bay where we’ll attempt fine walks above and around the bay that show off some amazing fortifications of this walled medieval city. Next up we’ll stretch out to the Lovćen National Park home of the high peaks of Jezerski and Stirovnik. Jezerski itself unusually houses an interesting summit mausoleum. Finally, if time allows, we may even make it to Lake Skadar the largest lake in the Balkans, so big it is an actual National Park itself and half of it is in the country of Albania. Where ever we walk, we can’t fail to be charmed by such beauty and fall in love with Montenegro.

Each day you can choose from two walks, either take it easy, walking 7-9 miles with between 300 & 1,500 ft of ascent, or push yourself a little, doing 9-13 miles with up to 3,000 ft ascent (some hard walks may require a good head for heights ask your guide).

Maximum walking height 1749m or ( 5,739 ft)
