Overview

We had such a super time on our first visit that we booked two years ahead to return for the bank holiday weekend. Springhill Farm's Bunk House has stunning views towards the Farne Islands and Cheviot Hills and is perfect for groups with comfortable accommodation without a compromise on quality.

Included in the weekend are 2 full cooked breakfasts, 1 continental breakfast (help with cooking and the cleaning up is as always very much welcomed & expected) a Friday night buffet, BBQ style food (cooked indoors) on the Saturday and a fish & chip supper on Sunday. You will need to bring bedding with you; either a sleeping bag or a duvet, sheet and pillow.

Whether you’re a brand new member, an ‘old hat’ or one of the many that have been with us for a little while, and you like having fun with other like-minded Spice members then this really is a great weekend to book. It’s also a great starter weekend if you’ve not been away with us before - very laid back - you can do as much or as little as you choose; it’s your weekend away. But, be warned – our weekend breaks do sell really, really quickly so get those bookings in ASAP to avoid being disappointed.

Optional boat trip: Please let us know at the time of booking if you would like a place on the optional boat trip to Farne Islands landing on Inner Farne, departing on the Sunday at 3pm. The trip is on the boat Glad Tidings, lasts around 2½ hours, and you can see more details of what is included at https://www.farne-islands.com/trips/innerfarne.htm. The price is £20 and you must be prepared to pay on the day. There's also a landing fee to pay on the day unless you are a member of the National Trust (in which case you must take your NT membership card). Location & Itinerary

Directly opposite Springhill are the world-famous Farne Islands, a bird sanctuary which is home to hundreds of thousands of visiting seabirds and one of the UK's largest grey seal colonies. Boat trips to the islands leave from Seahouses during the season. Watch red squirrels roaming the grounds of Alnwick's Hulne Park or why not take a Puffin Cruise to Coquet Island off Amble, where thousands of puffins congregate during the breeding season. Inland find heather moors, rugged countryside and Sites of Special Scientific Interest with bog lands, ancient woodlands and wildflower meadows. We have organised an optional boat trip to Farne Island and lots of other options, maybe a walk to Bamburgh Castle or a drive out to Alnwick Castle. Maybe even some beach combing or maybe even some sunbathing & a paddle in the sea if we are lucky with the weather! There is also a riding stables just a quarter of a mile away where beach rides or quiet hacks can be organised.

Travel & Stay

With 8 bedrooms each holding 4 with their own ensuite facilities it is an improvement on some of the bunkbarns we are used to and all in a fabulous location too. And although a little further afield for many people than we normally go, with everything it has to offer, it is worth that little extra effort, especially for a three night break.

With its breezy, seaside feel the Bunkhouse is different to traditional backpackers style hostels. Come home after a days' exploring to serviced, comfortable, clean rooms, electric/oil heating (hopefully not needed for a summer visit!), a well equipped communal living room and a fully equipped self catering kitchen. Wake up each morning to views of Bamburgh Castle, recently voted one of Britain's Favourite Views. Wildlife is one of the major attractions to the area.

The bunk barn has free Wifi and there is parking onsite.

There are limited drinking glasses so if you are keen to drink from a wine glass or pint pot, we would suggest you take your own favourite one with you. Please note that the Wigwam & Camping toilets, showers, washing up facilities etc are out of bounds to us.
