Mid-Week Ramble: Chinley near Whaley Bridge
Overview
A very satisfying circular stroll around the hill on the north side of the valley containing the Chapel bypass. If you’ve ever driven to Buxton from Manchester, looked to your left and thought “I wonder what the views are like from up there…” then this is the walk for you! On the way round there are uplifting views of the Kinder plateau and the centre of Manchester one after the other.
Location & Itinerary
Grade 4: 6 Miles
From Mcr head out towards Buxton on A6. 3.8 miles beyond the entrance to Lyme Park on the A6 there is a sharp turn on the left immediately after going under a railway bridge signposted B6062 Chinley/Buxworth. This is the turn you want, but it is not permitted to turn left going in this direction. Instead, carry on and go right round the next roundabout (start of Chapel bypass) to come back on yourself and turn right into the road signposted B6062 Chinley/Buxworth. Once on the B6062, wind along it for 2.6 miles into the centre of Chinley where the road bends sharply to the left. Turn right here, signposted Whitehough into Green Lane, and the public conveniences where we meet are on your right. Park for free on the road.
