Overview
The hotel lies just outside the historic town of Ross on Wye. Our aim is to explore the unrivalled beauty of the ‘The Gateway to Wales’ through Ross-on-Wye, the beautiful Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean area. On one day we may visit Symonds Yat to experience one of the most beautiful views of the river Wye. This area has a beautiful tapestry of habitats, with ancient woodlands, open hillside and a river that winds its way through a narrow gorge and swings round in a great loop truly showing off its scenic splendour. By contrast the we can also explore the Heart of the great forest of Dean with its view points such as New Fancy and secluded lakes and ponds. Or there are also wonderful open routes around Goodrich Castle which offers wide open panoramas across to the distant Welsh mountains. The final decisions will be made closer to the time, when we’ve seen the weather!
On New Years Eve we will explore one of the closest walks to the hotel so that we can finish a little earlier and prepare ourselves for the evening ahead. Then for those who survive through to New Years Day! Or for those who need to clear their heads, we will begin, somewhat later than usual, with a sedate stroll (or a hangover hobble to clear the head)
To best suit your requirements, we will provide a professional guide for each day. There are two walks each day led by professional & knowledgeable walking guides. The harder walk of around 10 -12 miles with up to 1800 ft ascent (please be realistic about your level of fitness and join the right walk for you, after all it should be about pleasure at the end of day) & the easier walk of 8-10 miles and around 750ft of ascent. Own cars may be taken to the start of the walks.
All walks are weather dependent and may be changed due to local conditions and events.

New Year Eve: Revel in elegance and style at Penyard Hotels’ New Year Gatsby Gala Dinner and Dance. The fancy dress / Black Tie evening commences with a celebratory bubbly glass of Fizz and a canape reception followed by a fabulous 5 course dinner. After dinner, dance the night away to the live band and toast in the New Year. So come on lets party!

Location & Itinerary
We provide a minimum of two walks on each day, so you can choose how you are feeling on the day and select the walk that suits you best! These walks will be led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. However it isn't all about the walking, it is about experiencing a great New Year away with lovely like-minded people and sharing great experiences, walks and social time together. Travel & Stay
The Penyard House Hotel is located just a couple of miles charming town of Ross on Wye. It is a beautiful building with some parts dating back to the 18th Century.
It peacefully lies within 9acres of beautiful parkland and beautiful gardens. It is the ideal setting for our New Years Party break.
There is a well stocked bar and the glasshouse restaurant is well respected locally, with experienced chefs creating appetizing freshly prepared meals to tempt you palette.
The blend of country house charm and modern amenities continues through to the 48 en suite bedrooms which all come well equipped with Freeview TV, tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, plus free Wi-Fi access and all ample workspace and good lighting.
