Overview

For our Easter Break this year we are in the fabulous City of Liverpool with its many attractions including two magnificent cathedrals, the famous docks, the ferry across the Mersey, the Three Graces, The Cavern Club and many fascinating museums. Join us for a fun weekend where we will take in the sights of the city, all within a short walk of the Holiday Inn Hotel.

Included in the price is three breakfasts and three dinners, a cathedral tour, a fabulous party river cruise, a treasure hunt and a quiz, with lots more optional group activities.

This promises to be a great weekend so come along and have a great time with lots of fellow Spicers! A joining pack will be sent out around two weeks beforehand to help with planning, directions etc.

Location & Itinerary

Liverpool is a great destination for a city break with lots to see and do.

Its UNESCO World heritage site Albert docks is home to boutique shops and some of the city's museums. The waterfront is dominated by The Three Graces (Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building, and the Port of Liverpool Building), important buildings in the city's maritime history.

Of course the city is world famous for its music and a great many bands originated here, including of course The Beatles. The Cavern Club has been rebuilt and is an iconic live music venue once again.

The city's museums and galleries include the International Slavery Museum, the National Maritime Museum. Museum of Liverpool, The Beatles Story, World Museum, Lady Lever Art Gallery, Sudley House and Walker Art Gallery.

If you fancy taking to the water, the famous Ferry 'Cross The Mersey will take you to Wallasey and Birkenhead giving the best view of the Liverpool skyline.

There is also a popular shopping centre Liverpool ONE and a huge selection of bars and restaurants to enjoy.

Arrive at leisure on Good Friday.

7pm. Meet us for pre-dinner drinks in the hotel bar.

8pm. We'll sit down to eat in the hotel's restaurant fo a three course dinner shuffle. This will be a great way to meet some of the others on the weekend.

On Easter Saturday we'll meet up at breakfast.

11am. There will be a guided tour of Liverpool Cathedral if you wish to join us, with the option to climb the tower if you wish. After the tour we will be meeting for a coffee in the Mezzanine Café Bar in the cathedral where we will be handing out the clues for the treasure hunt which will take in many sights of the city. If you want to join in please meet us there around 12:15.

12:30pm we will put you into teams for the treasure hunt. It will include the docks and waterfront area where you can explore the free museums (International Slavery Museum, the National Maritime Museum, Museum of Liverpool, Tate Liverpool) or take a lunch break etc.

There will be plenty of time to explore the City and above in the Your Destination section are suggestions of what you may wish to do.

1pm. There's an optional visit Behind the scenes of the Queensway Mersey Tunnel - learn about the tunnel's construction, see the original control room and the giant ventilation fans in action.

5:45pm. Meet up in the hotel bar and we will announce the winners of the treasure hunt.

6:30pm. We'll leave the hotel to walk to the docks.

7pm. We board our party boat. We will be cruising eight of Liverpool's famous docks and dining on the included river cruise with three course dinner on board. There will be music and dancing on board!

10pm. We disembark. We will call in a pub or two on the way back to the hotel to continue the evening.

On Easter Sunday morning we will meet up at breakfast.

11am. Meet in reception for the optional visit to The Beatles Story - it's a must for anyone that is interested in the Fab Four. There'll be plenty of time to explore the exhibitions and those that wish to can get a coffee or lunch at the Fab-4 cafe. If not taking part you'll have more free time to enjoy parts of the city you missed the day before.

2pm. We'll walk from The Beatles Story to The Cavern Club for an optional visit to the famous club to enjoy some live music with one of their resident bands.

4:45pm. Meet up back at the hotel for our fun Liverpool-themed quiz.

6pm. Meet up in the bar for pre-dinner drinks.

6:40pm we'll wander over to the impressive Philharmonic Dining Rooms for our final dinner together (and a chance to admire the Grade I listed gents' toilets).

Breakfast is included on Monday

10:30am. Meet up in the hotel reception for our optional Ferry 'Cross The Mersey boat trip and visit to the U-Boat Story at Woodside.

12:50. The Ferry returns to Liverpool Waterfront.

Travel & Stay

We will be staying at The Holiday Inn Liverpool City Centre Hotel which is in a great location immediately across the road from Lime Street Station. Our rate includes accommodation in a modern, well-equipped and comfortable bedroom. All rooms have En-Suite bathroom with shower, Air-conditioning, Direct dial telephones, Complimentary Wi-Fi, Flat screen TV, Satellite TV, Iron and ironing board, Hair dryer and Hospitality tray.

The superior rooms are larger and have a cosy lounge area.

A full English breakfast is included for Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings.

Check in is from 3pm on Friday and check out is at 11am on Monday.

Getting There

The hotel is immediately across the road from Lime Street Station so is very easy to get to by rail.

For drivers the adjacent John St car park is discounted to just £6 per 24 hours.
