We made the most of the bank holiday weekend, as usual!
Sep 02, 2021
What an amazing bank holiday weekend we have had, with Spice Yorkshire members all across the country, from Scotland to the Isle of Wight. Firstly, there was the Edinburgh Festival Weekend with 40 Spice members descending on the city and joining Jamie to enjoy several shows. In Northumberland, we had the Hadrian's Wall Walking Weekend with Walkwise. In Derbyshire, Lauren hosted the three-night Dovedale weekend at the country house hostel in Ilam, with fabulous walks each day. One Spice Yorkshire member ventured into Wales for the Tenby and Pembrokeshire Coast Walking Weekend. Meanwhile, Pam hosted the Isle of Wight weekend in Shanklin covering everything from swimming, sunbathing, walks, afternoon tea, pubs, Shanklin Chine, Freshwater Bay, Alum Bay, boat trips, Osbourne House, Cowes, Ventnor and even riding in a tank at the Military Museum. There's a photo below of some of the group by the sea. If you missed out on this one, Pam is doing it all again on the May Bank Holiday.
Closer to home, almost 30 of us were out across our two curry night meals in Leeds and Sheffield on Friday evening. Then on Saturday we were in Harrogate as we formed two teams of crime-fighters, the Super Sleuths and the Deducing Detectives, to solve the case of the Harrogate Ripper in a virtual murder-mystery game. Although the Super Sleuths didn't quite manage to get the answer, the Deducing Detectives did find the solution. Although we weren't fast, coming 24th out 45 teams, we had a lot of fun exploring Harrogate looking for suspects and clues. On Sunday, Karen led the Bank Holiday Drinks and Meal at Apadana in Huddersfield. It was so good that we are looking to arrange another visit to Apadana before the end of the year. Finally on the Bank Holiday Monday, six intrepid Spice members made their way to Brimham Rocks for a day of abseiling with Lewis (see photo). We have had such great feedback from this that I have already asked Lewis if he can run another activity day for us, so look out for more coming soon!
