Wyrley & Essington Canal Ramble - Walk Four: Lichfield circular and Christmas Markets
Overview
A series of four new rambles led by Rob Smith following the route of the disused Wyrley and Essington canal (affectingly known as The Curly Wurly as it has lots of curves and bends). Robs has often been asked the restoration so walk one is where we have the opportunity to meet the restorers. One of the rambles includes a new Bus Ramble developed by Rob and the four rambles cover the outer reaches of the canal route and Chasewater. Rob has a passion about canals, so much so Rob and his family were founders of the early restoration. They were the Lichfield cruising club.
The forth ramble will have a look at the works in Lichfield with lots going on and some sections are in water. We head through the allys and sleepy estates before entering Darwin Park, a linier park by the side of the A38 following here we will see the tunnel. We skirt around the edge of Lichfield but the feeling is surprising rural, we will return via Lemondsly Church & Beacon park to the start.
After the ramble we can visit the Lichfield Christmas Food and Drinks Festival which has 160 food, drinks and craft stalls.
