Overview

Overview: This walking and social weekend with Steve and Arlene Dell will have a walking programme on 2 days and the option for various social activities. The walks are more moderate due to the hilly nature of the area, but we will be rewarded with stunning views.

There are several tourist attractions if you want to mix and match walking with touristy stuff. Worcester is a lovely city with a mixture of modern and historic architecture.

We stay at a central Worcester hotel which has parking and is a stones throw from Worcester Foregate Street railway station.

The walking programme: This designed to be flexible to meet the group’s needs and will be developed nearer the date, but walks can include…

The Malvern Ridge: The plan is to get the train from Worcester to Colwall and walk along the Malvern ridge into Malvern town and catch the train back from there. From Colwall station we make our way to the Malvern ridge at Wynds Point. Then we follow the ridge north with stunning view over the Worcestershire countryside on one side with Herefordshire in the other. The walk passes through Upper Wyche and then onto Summer Hill and to Worcestershire Beacon (the highest point on the Malvern Hills). The next stage takes in North Hill and we descend to Malvern town where we can have a rewarding drink or tea & cakes. The walk is around 8 miles.

Abberley Village & Hills and Great Whitley: This walk will be around 7 miles and is almost entirely within the ‘Abberley and Malvern Hills Geopark’ given global status by UNESCO and is one of Europe’s most important and interesting geological areas. The walk combines, wooded areas, great views and takes in part of The Worcestershire Way and Great Whitley.

British Camp and The Herefordshire Beacon: This 6 mile walk starts from the southern tip of the Malvern Hills. British Camp is an Iron Age hill fort located at the top of Herefordshire Beacon. The hill fort is protected as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and is thought to have been first constructed in the 2nd century BC. This walk also gives sweeping views and uses part of The Three Choirs Way as we make our way south. The return is lower level as it sweeps past Hangman’s Hill and British Camp reservoir.

Evenings and Après Walking: Friday night; Dinner will be at the hotel and Steve will do a welcome chat around 9:00, where he will go through the plans for the weekend. Saturday night; Dinner will be at the hotel again followed by either a quiz or we can find our way to some local pubs to make a change from the hotel.
