Overview

Ever wanted to be part of a flying circus? Now you can!

Stand on the wing of a 1940’s Boeing Stearman Biplane flown by a highly qualified pilot.

Complete a variety of flypasts and manoeuvres with the highlight being a dive from 500ft and a zoom climb with a final “Run and Break” before landing.

Families and friends can watch in admiration and take lots of pictures!

The plane is a Boeing Stearman PT17 Kaydet designed in the 1930’s as a Pilot trainer in the USA. The aircraft has been fully restored and painted in the original US Navy colours, and is fitted with the more powerful 300hp Lycoming engine.

The wing walking rig is fixed to the top wing of the Stearman. It is designed to make the Wingwalk or wing-ride as comfortable as possible with a special 5-position Safety Harness strapping the Wing Walker securely in place.

Flight tests were carried out by a CAA test pilot with a 6ft, 170lb dummy (named Jake!) to determine maximum speed allowable, and any changes in the handling of the aircraft and general performance, all of which were passed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Your pilot, Mike, has 4900 flying hours and has performed over 2000 Air Displays on three continents, Europe, Asia and South America. As one of the most experienced Wingwalking pilots in the world, he has participated in setting various records including a Wingwalkers hand-touch between two aircraft, and a plane to plane transfer, as well as flying Tom Lakey who at 85 was the oldest Wingwalker ever to do a “loop the loop”, and again in 2009 entered the Guinness Book of Records for Wing Walking across the English Channel in his 90th year. Mike holds a UK Display Authorisation and is an Approved Examiner of Display Pilots.
