West Side Story at Clevedon Hall Outdoor Cinema Experience

West Side Story is a musical inspired by William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. The story is set in the mid-1950s in the Upper West Side of Manhattan in New York City, then a multiracial, blue-collar neighbourhood. The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The members of the Sharks, from Puerto Rico, are taunted by the Jets, a white gang.^[1] The young protagonist, Tony, a former member of the Jets and best friend of the gang's leader, Riff, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in musical theatre.

Clevedon Hall is a Grade II-listed 19th century manor house, set within 17 acres of glorious Somerset countryside and is now an outdoor cinema experience.  Screenings take place on the lawn in front of the hall, overlooking the water.

Hot food and snacks will be available, an on-site bar and picnics are welcome. Bring your own blanket or folding chair. Gates open at 7.45pm and the film starts at approximately 9.15pm. We aim to meet outside the gates at 8.00pm.

Limited free on-site parking is available on a first come, first served basis.
