Walking Weekend Whitby Coast and Moors
Overview
After finding the very comfortable Country House Hotel of HF Larpool Hall last year, we didn’t need to think twice about where we were going to stay for this years visit to Whitby! The grade II building, was built in the 1780’s, but this elegant property has been tastefully and sympathetically modernized with en suite bedroom and comfortable lounges and a very nice relaxing bar. And the food is excellent, with locally sourced produce and the excellent HF picnic lunches to keep you going! The location of this hotel, centrally situated 20 minute’s walk above Whitby not only allows us to experience tremendous surroundings but also affords us the opportunity to achieve truly interesting and invigorating walking. One day we shall whisk ourselves off along the best of the dramatic coast. Whilst the second day may see us back on the coast or depending on tides we may head inland to explore the beautiful north Yorkshire moors around Goathland. By night we shall have the option of staying in or heading in to Whitby to partake of the night life in this small but vibrant town. Way hay!

The hotel prides itself on the quality of its food, using local produce wherever possible. The wide choice at breakfast includes locally produced sausages, eggs and bacon, and you’ll find a range of home-baked goods amongst the choices for their famous self-select picnic lunches. Dinner is the social highlight of the day, offering three courses with plenty of choice. This might include locally caught fish, Goathland Fells lamb or locally made ice cream. With your meal, enjoy a drink from the bar which offers a range of wines and local beers. There’s a vegetarian option at all meals and they are happy to cater for gluten-free diets.
To allow you to choose a walk that suits you best, we provide a minimum of two walks on each day, led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On both days there will be a harder walk of 10-14 miles with 1000+ft of ascent (please be realistic about your level of fitness and join the right walk for you, after all it should be about pleasure at the end of the day) and a gentler walk of 8-9 miles with less ascent. All walks are weather dependent and own transport may be taken to the walk starts.
Travel & Stay
The house is right on the doorstep of the North York Moors National Park which provides a varied backdrop for your walking or sightseeing, from heather-clad moors and green valleys to bracing cliff-top paths and the bustling harbour town of Whitby. The bedrooms all have their individual layout and character, as befits a historic building, and are located in the main house. In your room you’ll find a TV with digital radio, hair dryer, towels and tea and coffee making facilities. The public rooms at Larpool Hall reflect the historic character of the house. There’s a dining room, large lounge and a licensed bar, which opens out onto the terrace. The boot and drying room is available to store your boots and to dry wet outdoor clothing. WiFi is accessible in all public areas of the house. And to confirm you are having a true get away from it all you’ll find, due to the area in which the house is located, the mobile phone signal is patchy. Yay hay!
