Overview

As you no doubt already know the Lake District is one of the most beautiful parts of Britain which understandably makes it one of the most popular too, but many make the mistake of forgetting about the Eastern Lakes! Our aim for the weekend is to take advantage of this and explore its amazing beauty. We intend to avoid the crowds, take in the peace and quiet and enjoy the wonderful solitude found here. The scenery is second to none and we have some beautiful and varied walks for you, exploring both beautiful Fells and valleys alike. Each day there will be a choice of walks one heading to the fells and one in the foothills. One day, the walks will see us heading up into the amazing Haweswater valley where it’s said the last English Golden Eagle was to be seen circling high above an 8 mile long lake and the stunning High Street mountain range. The other day will explore the South East flank of Ullswater and Lowther Estates. Add to this the comfort of the Best Western Shap Wells Hotel which is set in its own spacious grounds that provide a resident home to our endearing Red Squirrels! Ensuite bedrooms, well stocked bars, games room and spacious lounges which overall makes an ideal package to explore the Lake District. The combination of the wealth and variety of walking ensures a weekend to scintillate and excite all walkers from the most battle-hardened to the newest of novices!

Location & Itinerary

Is this for me?

To allow you to choose a walk that suits you best, we will provide a minimum of two walks on each day, led by professional and knowledgeable walking guides. On both days there will be a harder walk of 10-12 miles with up to 3,000+ft of ascent (please be realistic about your own fitness and undertake the walk that will give you the most pleasure) and a moderate walk of 7-9 miles with less ascent. Please be a realistic about your fitness to ensure you join the correct walk.

Travel & Stay

Set in the finest of breathtaking scenery you will be staying in the superb Shap Wells Hotel cosseting an envious location that is ideally situated for access to the English lakes, the Upper Eden Valley, the Dales and the Pennines. Naturally, all rooms have all mod-cons including en-suite bath or shower, television, telephone and tea and coffee making facilities. The Shap Wells also has extensive lounges and maybe more importantly the adjoining Fell Bar which is a ‘pub’ type bar with real ale and there is also a games room with pool and a juke box. All in all, this hotel has just what we want from a cracking walking base.
