Walk - Soho on the Edges : From Tin Pan Alley To Fitzrovia
Overview
Soho is unofficially bordered by Coventry Street, Oxford Street, Charing Cross Road and Regent Street. These famous streets, surrounding what some call the "un-square" i.e. cool mile, are the source of the legendary stories we tell on our other Soho walks. But the streets on the edges of Soho also have some fascinating tales to tell; Barrie your guide is just the man to tell them to you.
From the remarkable music history of Denmark Street (aka Tin Pan Alley) in the east to the world famous music venues and clubs to the north along Oxford Street, we will then move even further north to what the ever resourceful local estate agents are calling Noho - which is of course much better known as Fitzrovia. This is where bohemian London flourished from the early 1920s.
You will also hear stories of an unsolved murder, how a 15th century Indian sect came to be an accepted part of the London scene, and how a piece of footwear changed the fashion world.
Please arrive by 13:55 to start the tour promptly at 14:00.
