Walk: Chapel Row, Bucklebury and Stanford Dingley
Overview
This is a circular walk approximately 8 miles through a mixture of woodland and open fields and crossing the River Pang. The walk is generally flat with few undulations.
We walk past the manor of Bucklebury which was mentioned in the Doomesday book, was granted to Reading Abbey by Henry 1st. Also in Bucklebury is the 11th century parish church of St Mary the Virgin which has some impressive features including a carved Norman doorway. Stanford Dingley also has an interesting church (St Denys) dating from the 12th and 13th centuries.
The walk takes us past several pubs but we can visit the Bladebone Inn at the end of the walk if anybody wishes to have a drink.
Don't forget to bring a picnic and refreshments. We will walk whatever the weather (unless there is a severe weather warning) so please dress appropriately for the day.
