Location & Itinerary
What’s in Store -
During the carnival this most magical of cities fills with a mass of masked party-goers, posing, dancing and singing - it’s all a bit surreal; the carnival is a re-invention of a historical tradition dating back to the 1700s.
As always with our partners at WingsItaly it’s going to be an adventure, this experience is about joining in, having lots of fun and laughs along the way! Visiting Venice at this time as you would expect, the locals are crazy happy, so expect it to be buzzing and full of life, it is show time and a level of spontaneity is required - each street and canal leads to something new.
The Venetian Galleon -
We have experienced the Venetian Galleon during our New Year in Venice adventure and the feedback was tremendous. Our cruise includes an evening meal in an enchanting atmosphere on a 17th century-based Venetian Galleon, it is a bespoke fine dining menu, whilst you are navigating around the islands of the Venetian lagoon. Splendid views of Saint Marco Square and much more. Please note in February you will dine inside the Galleon (a relief we are sure!), which is fully equipped with toilets and heating.
• 5 Courses with wines, prepared with seasonal products by the chefs on board.
• Panoramic navigation between the islands of: Venice, Murano, Burano, Torcello, Sant 'Erasmo, San Francesco del Deserto, San Giorgio.

During the carnival your hosts will be at hand and can advise and organise many optional tours, of which can be the famous Casino di Venezia. (free of charge), the famous markets or perhaps a Gondola ride and much more.
The carnival is a nonstop event day and night. During the day there are several free shows and many Venetians strolling around wearing beautiful costumes; at night Venice acquires an aura of magic and mystery, secret canals, bridges, buildings glowing with hanging chandeliers, street lanterns, and whilst your hosts will be at hand you are of course free to explore the city and browse up and down the Grand Canal at your leisure .
Whilst Andrea at WingsItaly is Venetian, he is expecting this period to be even more Italian than normal, buzzing with excitement and one of the best parts of this carnival is you really do not know what’s coming next! Therefore, in order to fully enjoy this experience we kindly ask that you join in with the Venetian Carnival spirit, Venetian Masks, Capes and of course any item of traditional Venetian Carnival costume will very much be appreciated, but it’s not mandatory, it’s just for fun! Nearer the time when the carnival organisers have published the events a more detailed itinerary will become available.

History of the Monastery -
- Commenced in 1423 as a Gesuati' monastery, around the end of the 15th century the construction of the Church of St. Mary began (situated next to the Monastery).
- 1669 the monastery was purchased by the Dominican Fathers, who erected a new church of "Santa Maria del Rosario" and also began extending the monastery.
- 1810 Napoleon issued a decree for the dissolution of religious orders and confiscated and closed the Monastery
- 1815 - 1850 managed by the Municipality of Venice as an orphanage.
- 1851 - 1866, was entrusted to the Somaschi Fathers
- August 1923, the Don Orione purchased the residence (we have stayed at another Don Orione residence, Villa Lomellini in Oltrepo Pavese), today this venetian monastery is still owned by the Roman Catholic Church and it has opened its doors for the first time for Spice Uk !
