Overview

Have you ever dreamt of stepping into a painting? To become completely immersed in the work before you, making reality around you fade into the new world created by the artist? This is where you can!

Thanks to cutting edge virtual projection you will become a part of the spectacular, incomparable universe of Vincent Van Gogh. The experience will let you discover the life of the artist in a new way: his time at the convent and in Arles, the secrets from the letters he wrote to his brother and much more. You will participate in a unique sound and light show that will immerse you in the world renowned and familiar images of Vincent Van Gogh. No one will leave untouched. Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a 360 degree experience in the universe of one of the greatest geniuses of the last century.

At the end of the exhibition, the VR Experience will take you even deeper into the life of the artist in Arles. You will travel through 8 works and their sources of inspiration: Vincent’s room, the meadows, the forest, the village and ending with Starry Night over the Rhone River… This optional extra costs £3, payable on the day.

Getting There

York St Mary’s is a 20 minute walk from York Railway Station following the green pedestrian signs to the ‘Castle Area’.

The main entrance area is fully accessible by approaching York St Mary’s from Coppergate Square, within the Coppergate Centre. Visitors approaching from the Castlegate side have to go down a short flight of steps.

The building is on two floors. The main exhibition area on the ground floor is fully accessible. The upper mezzanine can only be accessed via stairs.

The nearest car park is the Castle Car Park next to Clifford’s Tower, which has 305 spaces including for Blue Badge holders. This car park is off Clifford Street, off the inner ring road, most easily reached from the A19 to the south of the city or the A1036 to the south west.
