Sunday Walk: Bold Heath, Sutton Manor and The Dream
Overview
Today’s walk starts from the small village of Bold Heath, Merseyside to the South of St. Helens, following lanes, farm tracks, footpaths and fields through woodland and country parks crossing the M62 by bridge at one point and walking beneath it at another. We also take in the site of the former Sutton Manor Colliery now a country park where a gradual ascent to its summit (more or less the only climb on the walk) take us to the beautiful white 60foot high sculpture ‘The Dream’ as stunning close up as it is from a distance. Another Country Park ‘Clock Face’ provides us with pleasant surroundings for our lunch break once again a former colliery. Although we are never far from the hum of the M62 on this walk it is very pleasant and easy to navigate. Our start/finish point is very close to a large Garden Centre (opens at 10.30am so might be useful for a pre-walk loo stop) and also the Griffin Public House either of which we can pop in for refreshments after the walk.
