Spice Exclusive Outdoor Treasure Hunt in Oxford
Overview
Are you a WANNABE pirate and fancy taking a socially-distanced treasure hunt around Oxford city? Well now you can with this highly reviewed alternative walking tour of the city that shows off hidden architecture and untold stories of the dreaming spires.
Starting in the shadow of Oxford Castle, you will be following scavenger hunt maps using your smartphone via a messaging service that looks like WhatsApp. It’s easy to use.
The maps will take you into the city centre, winding around the towers and taverns. Along the way, a virtual pirate, who is leading the tour through the messaging service, will send across clues and riddles to help you find the ‘treasure’.
Oxford’s beautiful streets are full of hidden treasure, from intriguing sculptures perched up high to medieval stone architecture and this game will have you uncovering the best of it.
The game lasts approximately two hours, without any comfort breaks. However, the game can be paused if you find you’re in need of some light refreshments.
You don’t need to download or print anything and it doesn’t need any permissions.
Your Spice host will forward you all the information you need nearer the time or on the day.
Top Tips: It's important to assign at least one "lookout" in each team - someone to keep their eyes on the street, not on their phone. If you get stuck, make sure you re-read the clue carefully. Sounds obvious, but people forget the answer is in their hands! Avoid Googling the answer, it'll distract you from your surroundings, and it won't help! Your score is the number of clues you got right first time, without a hint. The score is only for your satisfaction, so don’t struggle needlessly!
Facilities: There are toilets in Westgate (ground floor inside Social Street Food) and outside the covered market after clue 8.
We will either pause the game for refreshments or we will surge on and find somewhere nice for tea and cake after we have finished.
Please note: There is a lot of walking involved.
