Overview

Firstly let’s deal with the elephant in the room – Covid 19. Unless you have been in hibernation you will be aware that there is currently a pandemic gripping the world! Spain is currently not on the UK Governments travel corridor list and therefore you will need to check any travel insurance you have carefully to ensure that it covers you for travel to Spain given the current restrictions and offers adequate cover for you if you fall ill for a Covid related reason, an EHIC is still valid until the end of the year though but this isn’t a replacement for travel insurance. You also need to appreciate that on return to the UK under current rules you will need to self isolate for 14 days.

Next, you may be asking how can Spice offer this break at such a competitive price? There are a number of factors for this-

1) Flights are ridiculous cheap at the moment for obvious reasons!

2) There are no airport transfers included so you will need to factor in car hire (more about that later)

3) and this is the main reason – this is a newly renovated property that has never received guests before so the rates they have given us are very competitive.

To keep things as Covid safe as possible we plan to use the rooms as only single occupancy unless requested to share but in this instance there is no change in price. This isn’t a big trip (maximum 12 if everyone has a single) and it would be great to get a group of intrepid Spicer’s to visit and pave the way for many more groups to follow hopefully and the feedback you can give will be really helpful.

Covid commitment

Given the uncertainty surrounding international travel you can book with confidence though Spice. Our commitment to you is that if for any reason relating to Covid 19 this holiday needs to be cancelled you will receive a full refund. Furthermore should you be unable to travel due to a local lockdown in the UK preventing you, you will not be penalised and Spice will refund your payments to us.

The tour operator for this flight inclusive holiday is Spice UK Ltd (ATOL 9046). Travel Insurance. Some drinks & some meals, optional excursions and personal extras.

Location & Itinerary

The northern coast isn’t typical Spain as the weather isn’t as predictable as the mediterrean south but this area has so much more to offer. Cantabria is a place where nature excels in expressing herself. The seasons are no exception - cold winters and warm summers. When the sun shines in Cantabria its hot. When it rains in Cantabria it pours. The mountains and coastline are green for a reason so come prepared, enjoy the rain when it comes and celebrate all of the seasons.

Food & Meals

Included in your trip is a continental breakfast everyday, two evening meals at local restaurants and a bottle of wine per person each night. Also, there will be complimentary tea/coffee available for you to help yourself to and every afternoon there will be a delicious cake from a local bakery to share. Finally, locally sourced sping water will be available in the house so you won’t need to worry about getting bottled water unless you really want to.

Travel & Stay

‘Agara’ translated as Home in sandscript – your accommodation is a large house that was formerly used as a restaurant but has recently been renovated. It has completely new electrical and bathroom installations and a new kitchen. Despite the physical improvements to bring the house up to modern standards the owners have tried to retain the character of the house. This is a chance for a relaxing break where you can immerse yourself in the local area and culture – you won’t find a choice of bars and nightclubs on your doorstep so if you want a party you’ll have to do it in the house!

There are twelve bedrooms and eight bathrooms; four rooms have bathrooms en-suite and the rest share the remaining four.

Getting There

Provisional Flight Information

09/11/2020       London Stansted to Santander     Dep: 1330         Arr: 1630

13/11/2020       Santander to London Santander   Dep: 2215         Arr: 2305

Transfers

You will fly into Santander Airport and it’s approx. 30 minutes drive to the hotel. We haven’t included any airport transfers as to get the most out of the area you really need your own transport so car hire will be necessary. You will be met at the airport by your coordinator and can follow them in convoy to the hotel but just in case full directions on how to get to the hotel will be provided. If anyone is happy to act as nominated driver you may want to consider sharing cars to reduce costs.

If you really don’t want to hire a car we can arrange transfers at an additional cost but the house is quite remote and you will be a little restricted in where you can go.

Travel insurance

The UK Foreign Office has travel restrictions in place for Spain. It is possible to find online or through a broker travel insurance that will cover Spain but Spice cannot stress highly enough the importance that you check any travel insurance you may already have or take out to ensure that it adequately covers you for travel to Spain under the current guidelines.

Travel to Spain is subject to entry restrictions

On arrival, travellers entering Spain from the UK will not be required to self-isolate.

However, you will be subject to the following three requirements:

  • Provide the Spanish Ministry of Health with contact information and any history of exposure to COVID-19, 48 hours prior to travel. You can do this on the Spain Travel Health website or downloadable app. It is mandatory for all passengers travelling to Spain to fill out and sign the online form associated with your trip, regardless of your nationality or residency status. On completion, you will be issued a personal and non-transferable QR code which you must show (electronically or hardcopy) at airport health controls on arrival
  • Temperature check
  • Undergo a visual health assessment

Anyone who presents symptoms or fails one of the above requirements will be seen by a health professional.
