Join us in Tignes/Val D'Isere ski region!

It’s been a few years since we visited Tignes so we thought we should pay a welcome return. Tignes is linked to nearby Val d’Isere and together they make up the Espace Killy ski area offering over 300km of pistes. With such a huge area there is something for everyone; beginners and intermediates will love the many gentle cruising green and blue runs connecting the two resorts and also the long blue into Les Brevieres, a great lunch stop.  For the more adventurous the long blue and red runs down from the magnificent 3400m Grande Motte glacier are a must do, you’ll be spoilt for choice of just where to ski each day.  For experts there are many un-pisted itinerary runs which should get the legs burning plus of course “La Face” the sheer black drop into Val. There are also some fantastic and varied runs above Val at Le Fornet.

The two resorts are easily linked to each other but are quite different in character. Set high in the magnificent Savoie Alps, Tignes comprises of 5 modern purpose-built large villages all set on a beautiful open mountain plateau and offers easy access to some of the best lifts in the Alps. It’s virtually guaranteed snow, has a lively après scene and some of Europe’s best slopes. Val is set is an open valley and is centred on a 17th century church and has a great selection of lively bars, restaurants and shops.  Val has three main ski areas, those linking to Tignes, the smaller but interesting Le Fornet area plus La Daille area above which is LaFollie Douce, a great last run stop for a spot of table dancing!

1) First time skier, totally new to the sport (Beginner)

2) Second week skier OR has had lessons at snow dome and/or dry ski slopes (Beginner Plus)

Level 3~10 – Tignes is a great resort with plenty of variety for anyone from Intermediate upwards

3) Skied a few weeks and happy on green and blue runs (Lower Intermediate)

4) Skiing parallel on blues and starting to tackle reds (Intermediate)

5) Okay on reds and starting to tackle blacks (Upper Intermediate)

6) Can get down blacks, but struggles on bumps (Lower Advanced)

7) Happy on most groomed blacks and easy bumps, but finds steep bumps and off piste tricky (Advanced)

8) Can ski all bar steepest bumps and ski off piste with style except with deep powder and in poor snow conditions (Upper Advanced)

9) No problems: can ski everywhere in all manner of snow conditions (Expert)

10) Professional skier, instructor, freerider etc

Snowboarding - the area offers some great opportunities and a number of fun parks.

While this scale can be used to assist in your selection of resort it should be noted that all ski areas have ski schools that will be able to cater for all levels of skier in group lessons from beginner through to intermediate.

If you are more advanced and really want to hone your skills you may want to consider one to one lessons.
