Enjoy a lesser know Italian gem!

A delightfully unspoilt village on the extensive and snow-sure Monterosa ski area, one of the largest ski areas in Italy. We have skied the Monte Rosa area a number of times from a base in Champoluc but this time we are heading into the heart of the area to make to most of it by being based in Gressoney.

Gressoney itself is made up of three villages - La Trinite at just over 1600m, Saint Jean at 1400m and further up the valley Stafal at 1800m where we will be based and is served by lifts and pistes.

Considered to be one of the most scenic resorts in the Aosta Valley, Gressoney is a quiet, beautiful village with excellent scenery and traditional small Italian village architecture. The nightlife is fairly quiet and relaxed revolving around the local bars and cafés and certainly no wild nightlife. There is a wide range of skiing on offer but if you class yourself as an expert piste skier who likes to ski mainly difficult black runs, but don’t venture off piste there are very few black runs in Gressoney and you may find yourself bored if red runs don’t excite you.

The tour operator for this flight inclusive holiday is Spice UK Ltd (ATOL 9046). This holiday is protected by the Civil Aviation Authority under the ATOL scheme in the event of failure of the tour operator. Spice UK Ltd holiday terms and conditions apply, as supplied with the full holiday information pack. Your money is protected via our trust account in compliance with EC travel regulations.

If off-piste is your thing the lifts will take you up over 3200m, and provide access to a huge amount of off piste skiing, however as always be warned though, the mountains are big and steep, and whilst there are a couple of marked ski routes most of the backcountry is not patrolled or avalanche controlled, and you should only venture out here with the suitable knowledge, experience, equipment, and definitely only with a guide.

Chalet du Lys

Located in Staffal at about 1850 meters above sea level and only 3km from the Walser village of Gressoney-La-Trinite it’s located at the foot of Monte Rosa, surrounded by the beautiful valley of the river “Lys”. The owners and their team at the Chalet du Lys offer you a warm and comfortable welcome to enjoy your time there. It has an enviable ski-in, ski-out location just a few of minutes’ walk from the nearest ski lift. The hotel has a friendly atmosphere, comfortable bedrooms and a lovely spa area that's perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes. The hotel also has its own pub named after one of the owners who insisted on adding the pub to the original old structure of the hotel and has an authentic, classic Irish Pub atmosphere experience, right in the middle of the Italian Alps.

Recently in the combat against Covid and to assist cleaning procedures the hotel have removed the wall to wall carpets in the bedrooms to better clean the floors and ensure the safety and comfort of everyone.

Lys Spa

What's in the Lys Spa wellness centre: Hydro massage, Sauna, Turkish bath, path of hot-cold, chromatic emotional showers, ice shower and the "Salt Room".

The salt room: exploits the concept of halotherapy, through the application of a natural aerosol that produces beneficial effects for the respiratory tract and the skin, in a relaxing context, which ensures well-being and psychophysical harmony.

The Spa is not included in your stay and is available Mon-Sun evenings for an additional charge of €12 per visit; if you want to use it don’t forget your costume!
