Overview
Inchnadamph and Sutherland is quite rightly one of our most successful and popular Scottish walking weeks we have ever run partly because at the Inchnadamph Hotel Jamie produces some of the food ever and Richard looks after us all so very well. True it is remote, but that is the true beauty of the area, everything is remote and in the Highlands they always say that ‘the best is in the North and the West’ and you cant go much further Northwest than here. Sutherland is quite simply the wildest and remotest corner of Britain and quite possibly the most beautiful!
Much of it is untamed and unpopulated, its geology is unique; individual mountains rise majestically from the landscape and the wildlife loves it. Red deer stags wander around the hotel grounds, eagles soar above and the whole area is just aesthetically stunning! Together the grandeur of the scenery combined with its unique natural history naturally attracts hill walkers and backpackers but it also makes this Sutherland one of the Europe’s premier walking and wildlife destinations.
Despite everything that 2020 threw at us we did managed to run this Scottish Walking Week at Inchnadamph on limited numbers. We had an amazing time amongst this wonderful landscape, admiring sublime scenery and the breath-taking wildlife. We were lucky to get the venue for Spice again for another whole week at the Inchnadamph hotel where our fantastic hosts will look after our every need.

Travel & Stay
Never heard of Inchnadamph? It’s a remote small hamlet in Assynt, Sutherland on the shores of Loch Assynt which has its own ruined castle (Ardvreck). The name ‘Inchnadamph’ means ‘meadow of the stags’ and on an evening or a morning the Stags are often found grazing the meadows that surround the hotel and sometimes they are even in the car park. Beyond these meadows the hotel is surrounded by the most incredible and breathtaking mountains, rivers and lochs. The Inchnadamph hotel has a great reputation for its friendly staff, relaxed service, great Scottish food and comfortable bedrooms. In fact the food has become legendary due to the quality and quantity we experienced on our last visit, even tall Paul couldn’t finish some of the main courses! The hotel comes with comfortable bedrooms all with tea and coffee making facilities. In addition, luxurious feather-and-down duvets with cotton bed linen to guarantee a comfortable night’s sleep and the bathrooms are all provided with generous, fluffy white towels. There is also a comfortable guest lounge and bar, a restaurant and for the ones who need to be connected, there’s free Wi-Fi in public areas.
There are no TV’s in the bedrooms due to there being no signal and note that there is no mobile phone signal either, so you have to be sociable - don’t bring any work with you either, that’s illegal here!
By Road: Head for Inverness, probably on the A9 which is the fastest and easiest route through the Highlands. Stay on the A9 past Inverness and across the Beauly Firth. At the roundabout at Tore, turn left on the A835 to Ullapool, and then simply stay on the A835 following signs to Ullapool. At Ullapool continue on the A835 and follow for a further 17 miles to a T junction with the A837. Turn LEFT signed A837 signed Lochinver, Kylesku and Scourie, the hotel is on the RIGHT in a further 6 miles.
The closest tourist Information Centre is Ullapool: 01854 612135
By train the nearest train station is at Lairg 34 miles away or Garve about 55 miles
By Bus Scottish Citylink operate buses from both Glasgow and Edinburgh to Ullapool
By Plane. If you live in the south of England it may be easiest to get a plane to Inverness and hire a car from there. Possibly co-ordinate with some others and share the cost although it very much depends upon the Scottish car sharing policies in place in relation to Covid at the time of the trip
