Saturday Evening Fish & Chips on a Steam Train

Join us aboard a heritage train service on the Battlefield Line for a Saturday evening with a difference! a delicious Fish & Chips meal.

Beautifully fried fish and chips served to your seat on board our heritage railway carriages, hauled by a steam locomotive through the Leicestershire countryside, followed by a tub of ice cream.

The buffet coach will be open, serving a range of alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages during your journey, including a variety of real ale, wines and much more...

The fish and chip special departs Shackerstone Station at 17:45, and returns at 20:15, which includes two return trips to Shenton and back. You can choose to alight from the train after the 1st trip if you wish, at approximately 7pm.

About The Battlefield Line: There’s so much more to see and do on the Battlefield Line than first meets the eye. Climb aboard one of our heritage trains and you’re transported back in time on an historical journey, courtesy of a country railway in the heart of rural England.​

The Battlefield Line is the last remaining part of the former Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway which was opened in 1873. It runs from Shackerstone via Market Bosworth to Shenton in Leicestershire and is operated by the Shackerstone Railway Society. Shackerstone Station is at the northern end of the line, and is the headquarters of the railway with museum, Victorian tea room souvenir shop, loco shed and main rolling stock located here. There is ample free parking, and the Ashby Canal is just a stones throw away.

Our remarkable railway captures the very essence of a country line, with steam, diesel and railcar train services along with small stations meandering along a single track line. It really does convey something of the feeling and atmosphere of heady days past. For anyone who retains a sense of nostalgia for times gone by, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at this place - one of Leicestershire’s best kept secrets, not just a train ride but a journey into history as well.
