Overview

Join us for a weekend afloat, sailing in the Solent. You’ll be living and sailing aboard a yacht chartered exclusively for Spice, under the guidance of a professionally qualified and experienced skipper. You can get as involved in the sailing as you like – hoisting the sails or perhaps even taking the helm. Or, if you prefer to relax and let someone else do the work that’s fine too! If we’re lucky we may catch a spectacular sunset.

The Solent is a generally sheltered section of water and trips will go ahead except in the very worst of weather conditions, so you should come prepared.

The professionally qualified skipper and crew will do their best to ensure you have an enjoyable weekend and learn a little about sailing if you wish to do so.

Basic breakfasts and lunches are available on board for the duration of the weekend – you will be expected to ‘chip in’ to help with food preparation (e.g. making sandwiches etc.). Each evening, we will moor up in a harbour and you will need to buy your own dinner at a local pub or restaurant.

The weekend starts from Gosport Marina at 9.00am on Saturday morning. If you wish to arrive the night before (arrival from 7pm) you can stay overnight on the boat in the marina at no extra charge. There is a bar and restaurant on site, plus showers.

All bunks are in shared spaces. No single cabins available. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow.

Life jackets will be provided.

You should wear comfortable clothing and bring layers.

If providing your own, good waterproofs are essential – they should be windproof and full cover (e.g. jacket and trousers). Ski gear or good quality walking gear is usually suitable.

Footwear must be non-slip and non-marking (e.g. not black soled). Soft white soled trainers or deck shoes are ideal. Flip flops are not suitable for wear on deck but can be useful for moving about in the cabin.

Space on board is limited - so remember to pack light!

Arrive on Friday evening anytime from 7pm and stay on board to give you the opportunity to become acquainted with your new surroundings before your sailing experience begins the next day.

Food & Meals

Getting There

By Rail: Catch a train to Portsmouth Harbour railway station (not Portsmouth & Southsea) – from London these go from Waterloo Station, fast trains take just under 90 minutes. There is also a train from Victoria. From Portsmouth Harbour station follow the signs for the Gosport ferry (not the Isle of Wight ferry). The trip across the harbour takes about three minutes and a return ticket costs £3.60 / £2.60 concessions.

By Ferry: On leaving the ferry, you can walk to the marina in about 3 minutes. Walk up from the ferry to the road and turn right, you will pass the Castle Tavern on your right hand side, the entrance to the marina is 20 metres past the pub. See the Ferry Timetable for more information.

By Road: Leave the M27 at junction 11 and take the A32 into Gosport town centre. Follow the signs for Gosport town centre, (you will notice signs at Fareham that also say town centre but you should follow the signs to Gosport). Keep going towards Gosport town centre, some of the landmarks will be the KWIKFIT Garage on your left, CROWN BINGO on your right and ST VINCENT’S COLLEGE on the left hand side. Go through a set of traffic lights about half a mile past the college, continue straight on and you will pass ALDI on your left. If you continue past ALDI you will see the BOAT YARD and DRY STACK , again on your left. Just a few yards beyond this look out for the entrance to GOSPORT MARINA. GOSPORT MARINA is on the left hand side just before the CASTLE TAVERN.
