Your yacht is based in Genova (or maybe you know it as Genoa), one of the four Italian sea republics: Genoa, Amalfi, Pisa, and Venice. Genova throughout the middle ages was extremely powerful, playing an important part in creating many Genoese cities across the Mediterranean Sea. When the English Navy in medieval times started to sail in the Mediterranean seas, they asked the Genoese Council if they could use and fly the Genovese flag (cross of St George) on their ships because the strong influence of this flag brought a significant amount of respect, security and safety when sailing in the Med! This explains why the two flags are the same!

You’ll be living and sailing aboard a yacht chartered exclusively for Spice, under the guidance of a professionally qualified and experienced RYA skipper.

Whilst this adventure is a sailing yachting holiday, it is your holiday and you can get as involved in the sailing as you wish - hoisting the sails, perhaps even taking the helm, or if you prefer just relaxing, swimming, sunbathing and letting someone else do all the work for you that fine too, and of course all enjoying one of the most exclusive areas of the beautiful Italian Riviera!

Waking up each morning, enjoying the breath-taking coastal scenery, amazing towns and villages along the way, stopping off for a swim in clear blue waters and, or, going ashore to sample local cuisine, culture.

Please note this adventure is for clients looking for sailing in calm tranquil waters and gentle winds, it is therefore may not be suitable for those looking for the more exhilarating sailing experiences at sea!

Location & Itinerary

Itinerary

Day 1- Chiavari Marinal. Arrive at your chosen airport , where you will be met by WingsItaly, and then it’s an escorted transfer to Chiavari Marina where you will join your skipper on board the beautiful Maud Ellen, settle in, enjoy a welcome aperitivo on deck, and your first evening meal on board. Relaxing evening and getting to know your surroundings on the Maud Ellen. Here you are docked in the Marina on the first evening, you can relax on board or stroll along the marina or go into the local town just minutes away.

Day 2 - Santa Margherita , Porto Fino . Breakfast on board, then it´s time to set sail for Santa Margherita , here you will anchor in the bay, have lunch on board, and then you will have the opportunity to travel by Tender to the quayside. Here you will have options to explore Santa Margherita, and, or take a watertaxi or bus to the famous and exclusive Italian port of Portofino. The water taxi to Porto Fino is approx. 20 minutes, approx 11.00 Euros return. Your crew will be at hand to assist.

Here you will find perhaps one of Italy’s most exclusive Italian fishing villages and resorts. Portofino is famous for its picturesque harbour and historical association with many famous celebrities! It’s a small harbour and is known for its colourful painted buildings that on on the shore line. In the late 19th century, the British, then other Northern European aristocratic tourists began to visit Portofino, which then only reached by horse and cart. Eventually more visitors built expensive villas, and by the 1950 exclusive tourism had replaced fishing as the town's chief industry. The port is a ring of chic restaurants and cafés. Still today there is a lot to do and explore - churches, bars, squares and of course a little bit of people watching.

Portofino is often thought to be the inspiration for Sir Clough Williams-Ellis  Italian style village, Portmeirion, built around 1925 in north Wales. However, this was repeatedly denied, stating he wanted to pay tribute to the atmosphere of the Mediterranean. After a day exploring, your crew awaits you on board for your evening sunset aperitivo, and another freshly prepared evening meal on board the Maud Ellen. On this night you will anchor overnight in the harbour waters, with the views and background of the Italian Riviera.

Day 3Chiavari. Breakfast on board and then a leisurely morning sailing around the bay. Afternoon lunch on board you will set sail returning to Chiavari Marina, this time granting more time to explore the local area just minutes away. Once again another evening aperitivo, and getting ready for your evening meal in a nearby restaurant, (client’s own expense). Here you will be in the Marina overnight.

Day 4 - Punta Chiappa. After breakfast on board, you will depart Chiavari for Punta Chiappa, and here your yacht will float in the tranquil waters picking up a buoy in the bay. After lunch on board, take a tender transfer to the quayside and explore the area and then returning for your evening Aperitivo on board, followed by meal in hidden local restaurant reached only by tender (included).

Day 5 - After breakfast on board, leave Punta Chiappa, heading back towards Genoa, sailing, swimming and in the afternoon having lunch on board, then arriving to the marina of Genova. Evening, Aperitivo on board followed by your evening meal in one of the local marina restaurants or maybe a quick transfer to downtown Genova, at client own expense. Here you will be in the Marina overnight.

Day 6 - After breakfast on board, it’s time to say arriverderci to your crew and the Maud Ellen and then it’s an escorted private transfer back to the airport.

Food & Meals

Cuisine

All WingsItaly adventures focus on local, seasonal, fresh food and this adventure will be no exception. You will be mainly dining on board on the upper deck, with freshly prepared meals. Also included is one evening meal at a secluded quayside restaurant, only accessible via tender, the other two additional evening meals you are free to select from a wide range of local restaurants of your choice at your own expense. Your hosts will be at hand to advise and help.

Prior to embarking you will be will asked to complete a preference sheet which will itemise in detail any dietary requirements, food allergies and medical conditions that the crew should be made aware of prior to departure. Once this preference sheet has been reviewed by the crew, you can rest assured that in preparing the cuisine on-board your own yacht, the crew will do their best to make this adventure bespoke.

Is this for me?

Is this the holiday for me?

- Your skipper and crew are your guides; this adventure is focussed on a small and intimate group, where you will enjoy sights and experiences you won’t find in any guidebook or holiday.

- Relaxing, swimming with a focus on water, Italian cuisines, culture and hidden treasures. Snorkelling, sun bathing, just rolling out of bed and into the sea. If you’re the kind of person who loves the water, then sailing holidays are for you.

- A high level of flexibility and spontaneity is required due to the elements of the weather and sharing a yacht inside and out.

- Your Skipper and crew will be officially in charge of taking care of the yacht. Though depending on your level of sailing experience you can do as much or as little as you like, including taking the helm, as long as the Skipper feels it is safe to do so.

- Skippers generally are allocated a stern cabin to themselves for the duration of your charter, though occasionally this can change and worked around with the crew of WingsItaly.

- Every group is different and interacts with people in different ways. Rest assured our Skippers and crew are professionals who are comfortable with meeting new people and adept at reading different social situations, your host WingsItaly will be at hand.

- This adventure is a perfect choice for those who want to be carefree, an experience where you set the pace and work with others to extend the itinerary with the skipper in charge.

- For those with a spirit of adventure, a love of the sea and a desire to drift off the beaten track. Each day can change and you can find secluded bays only accessible from the sea, take a leap into the shimmering Mediterranean or just get lost in the latest bestseller on the sun-kissed deck. Then, as the sun set arrives you will be ready for your evening Aperitivo.

- This is not a holiday defined by an itinerary, it’s a full immersion into an adventure that will bring you together as a group, allowing you to really get to the heart of this region you’re exploring and experiencing it with others.

- WingsItaly holidays are very popular with people who like to discover new countries but prefer to do so at a relaxed pace and with plenty of time dedicated to good food, wine and conviviality in between. There is a fair degree of flexibility and spontaneity rather than a rigid daily schedule. If you are looking for a packed programme of heavyweight cultural discoveries, you might find this approach a little too laid back for you.
