Roger's Evening Inveresk Walk
Overview
As Edinburgh grew during the late 17th and early 18th centuries and before the New Town was built, many wealthy merchants and professionals sought to move out of the city to get away from the smoke and pollution of Auld Reekie. A number of them moved to Inveresk, where they had grand houses built. Starting from Musselburgh, we follow the bank of the meandering River Esk inland, crossing under the East Coast Main Line and the A1. We then
return via Inveresk village with its ochre-coloured houses and walled gardens. Passing through St Michael's kirkyard we return down the steps to the cars
