Ramble: Teggs Nose
Overview
A varied walk with a very airy feel and good views over the western Peak. We start by crossing fields, with Macclesfield laid out below us as if it were a map. We then explore an intimate little valley before breaking out and climbing steadily on a quiet road to enter Macclesfield Forest. Fine views of the Cheshire Plain await us when we exit the forest and we traverse round the base of Tegg’s Nose and ascend its western side to appreciate the fantastic vista before returning to the cars. We will be stopping for lunch en route, so please bring a packed lunch and warm, waterproof clothing. You’ll need your walking boots too.
From Mcr head out to Macclesfield and from there take A537 towards Buxton (signposted near the Arighi Bianchi store which is on the junction of the A523, otherwise known as The Silk Road, and the A537). Proceed up A537 for 0.8 mile and take the right turn onto Buxton Old Road, signposted Tegg’s Nose Country Park. Continue steeply up for 1.3 miles to reach the Tegg’s Nose Country Park Car Park on the right where we meet (postcode SK11 0AP for SatNav). £2.00 per car to park all day at time of writing.
