Overview

A walk with a delightful mix of woodland, reservoirs, pasture and moorland - and good views of Winter Hill thrown in. 

We begin by skirting round the northern edge of the West Pennine Moors and then return to the cars over the high ground near Great Hill.

Getting There

From Mcr get onto M61 and head north towards Preston. At J9 turn right onto M65.  Go one junction and exit J3 on M65 and turn right onto A675 signposted Bolton.  After ~1.5 mls you go through Abbey Village. 2.5 mls after Abbey Village take the turning on left (sharp, back on yourself) signposted Tockholes. The Car Park is 1.7 miles on the right hand side, just before the Royal Arms pub. Park in rear car park (free). Postcode BB3 0PA for SatNav.  Alternatively you can go north into Bolton on the A666 and exit on the A675, go through Belmont and ~2 mls later turn right onto the road signposted Tockholes as above
