Ramble: Farndon Walk 1
Overview
An easy walk which starts from the pretty village of Farndon nestled between hills on the river Dee. There are good views of the hills, a Constable-worthy river, quiet lanes and a diversion to see a 13th Century castle on the other side of the river before returning to the cars. If we are very lucky we will see kingfishers which nest along the riverbank here. Please bring some sandwiches to keep you going on the way round, and as usual, please bring your walking boots.
Facilities: There used to be public conveniences in the car park where we meet but their current status is unknown during the Covid-19 outbreak.
Location & Itinerary
Grade 5: 5 1/2 Miles - please refer to the Ramble Grading page HERE which also gives you a list of recommended items to bring with you.
From Mcr take M56 to J15 and exit signposted M53 Chester, Wrexham. After 4 or 5 miles exit at junction signposted A41 Whitchurch and take right at roundabout signposted A41 Whitchurch. Get into lefthand lane almost immediately and turn left at traffic lights and follow dual carriageway for half a mile to turn left at roundabout, all signposted A41 Whitchurch. Follow this (A41) for about 9 miles to reach mini-roundabout and take right turn onto A534 signposted Wrexham, Farndon and Holt. Follow A534 for 3.6 miles and take the right turn signposted Farndon, Churton and Aldford. After 0.1 mile turn left signposted Farndon. Enter Farndon and carry on into village past the shops and curve downhill towards the traffic lights for the bridge over the river. The Dee Cliffs Car Park (CH3 6QF for SatNav) is on your left just before these traffic lights.
