Overview
Look forward to seeing in your New Year in great company with friend old and new and our fantastic hosts for this break Clare, Andreas and all the Wings Italy team. We are delighted to announce that we are off again for another New Year Experience in Oltre Po Pavese Italy, returning back to Villa Lomellini.
December is a great time of the year to visit the hills of Oltre Po, just south of Milano over the River Po. Though frequently called the ‘Tuscany of the North’, Oltrepò Pavese in Lombardy is fairly unknown. This area offers beautiful hills, medieval villages and castles, panoramic views, authentic Italian food and local wines. Oltrepò happens to be the largest wine producing area of Lombardy and one of the largest in Italy, especially famous for its Pinot Nero. The landscape is scattered with vineyards that are freely accessible for hikers, mountain biking and luckily, the Christmas spirit will still be in the air.

What’s in Store
28th December 2021 Day 1
A very special meet and greet welcome will be waiting for you at Villa Lomellini , with Eduart who is the Villa Director and his brother and number one helper Elvis, many of you may have met them before on other trips to Italy and Albania.
Then it’s your first nights evening meal with new and old friends. Please note the timing of the first evening meal will depend on flight arrivals .
29th December 2021 Day 2 - Santa Margherita , Porto Fino
After breakfast depart to the coastal region of Liguria, arriving at the seaside town of Santa Margherita, here you will have options to explore Santa Margherita, and then we will take a watertaxi to the famous and exclusive Italian port of Portofino. The water taxi to Portofino is approx 20 minutes.
Here you will find perhaps one of Italy’s most exclusive Italian fishing villages; Portofino is famous for its picturesque harbour and historical association with many famous celebrities! It’s a small harbour and is known for its colourful painted buildings.
In the late 19th century the British then other Northern European aristocratic tourists began to visit Portofino, which then was only reached by horse and cart. Eventually more visitors built expensive villas and by 1950 exclusive tourism had replaced fishing as the town's chief industry. The port is a ring of chic restaurants and cafés. Today there is a lot to do - explore churches, bars, squares and of course a little bit of people watching.
30th December 2021 Day 3
After breakfast depart the Villa by private transport into Milan. Transfer time depending on traffic is approx. 45 minutes. Here in down town Milano, you are free to join in with the Christmas markets, or take an Aperitivo on the Terrance overlooking the famous Dumo, free time, then you will be transferred to the unspoilt and relatively unknown canals of Milano, built originally be Leonardo di Vinci, later restored and now lined with café and bars.
31st December 2021 Day 4 New Year’s Eve
Spend the penultimate day of the year and welcoming in the New Year in Italian style.
After breakfast it’s a short 10 minute transfer to the small nearby town of Casteggio, its market day, shops are open and lots of bars and cafes, pop into Bar La Roma for an afternoon Aperitivo, maybe a sing along with the Casteggio Choir, or the local Musuem, and then it’s back to Villa Lomellini to prepare for the New Year’s Eve Gala.
At this time WingsItaly are assessing the various options and locations for your New Year’s Eve Gala, however, please be assured it will be in keeping with the past New Year’s Galas, with a selection of regional and seasonal inspired cuisine accompanied with wines of Oltrepo Pavese.

Varzi stands in the centre of the Stàffora Valley, in the heart of Oltrepò Pavese, this medieval town is like returning in time, eight centuries of history, churches, towers and castles. The village has an abundance of everything that one would imagine, two towering clock bell towers – Torre di Porta Sottana and Torre di Porta Soprana, cobbled back streets, old churches dating back to 1646 , built in the shape of four-leaf clover to imitate the great cathedrals and of course café shops and bars, WingsItaly are anticipating the Christmas market will be open . In addition, Varzi is famous for its local specialty, the salami of Varzi, renowned throughout the world.
Your day in Varzi will include, a visit to the medical town, escorted tour of the town, then a 5-minute transfer to a hillside Agritourism restaurant overlooking the hills of Oltrepo Pavese , here you will have your Italian Capodanno traditional Italian lunch , there will also be an optional opportunity to visit the on-site Spa, at your own expense. A guided walk in the hills is included. Return back to the Villa time to relax freshen up and then an evening of games, light buffet and wines playing Tombola, plus a few surprises along the night .
