Mid-Week Walk: Wycoller, Lancashire
Overview
Wycoller is a picturesque village nestled in a quiet corner of the West Pennine moors, famed for its mysterious ruined hall (said to be the inspiration for Fearndon Manor in Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre), its beautiful scenery, and it’s also the place where Penelope Keith chose to build a house! Today we start out from Wycoller and head across fields overlooking the Calder Valley with views across to Pendle Hill. We then ascend gently to meet the Bronte Trail, haunt of curlew and lapwing, which we follow long enough to take in the unique atmosphere before descending to the cars. Please bring walking boots and a packed lunch as usual, as we will be having a picnic lunch en route.
