Mid-Week Ramble: Rixton
Overview
An easy 5 mile walk through fields and on lanes taking in Rixton Claypits Nature Reserve on our route.
Rixton Claypits is a Special Site of Scientific Interest and was once an area of clay extraction for the local brickworks which has now been allowed to return to nature. Herons and kingfishers as well as flocks of Herdwick and Hebridean sheep are found there.
It is a flat walk with a few wooden steps and boardwalks in the Nature Reserve, but be prepared as it can be muddy.

For sat nav WA3 6LA
From the M6 Junction 21 follow the A57 towards Irlam. After about 3 miles go through the first set of lights. At the next lights signed B5212/Glazebrook Lane turn left and then immediately left and park on the road.
From the M60 Junction 11 follow the A57 to Irlam. Turn right at the first lights by the Barley Farm pub. This becomes a dual carriageway. Straight on at the lights by Makro, straight on at the next lights staying on the A57. At the 3rd set of lights turn right signed B5212/Glazebrook Lane and then turn immediately left and park on the road.
There is ample parking on a wide road near the Black Swan
