Overview

Today we are walking from taking in views of Gawsworth Hall (old & new), the Macclesfield Canal and North Rode in Cheshire not too far from Macclesfield.

The walk soon crosses meadowland with views of the Peak District. After a short road section the Macclesfield Canal is reached where we follow the canal for about two miles to Bosley Locks where we may take our lunch stop. We then take to the countryside again to North Rode passing through Gawsworth fisheries and past the beautiful St. James church which is surround by beautiful lakes.

Getting There

Take the A34 passing Capesthorne Hall on the right and continue of the A34 - turn left in to Pexhill Road signposted B5392 Macclesfield and Gawsworth Hall, continue for 2 miles then turn right in to Dark Lane. which then continues on to Church Lane bringing you to your destination. Parking is currently allowed on Church Lane, please park on the right hand side of the Lane (not on the pavement) opposite Gawsworth New Hall.

Your nearest railway station for Gawsworth Hall are Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe.

Host & Everything Else

Please bring your walking boots, hand sanitiser and sandwiches as we will be having a picnic on the way round. Please refer to the Ramble Grading page HERE which also gives you a list of recommended items to bring with you.

DOGS: Lauren welcomes well behaved dogs on her walks. They need to be kept on a lead if we are walking amongst livestock, whilst we are eating and at all times if there is someone on the walk who is nervous of dogs.
