We're back in the Yorkshire Dales in the height of Summer for a weekend in the beautiful village of Kettlewell.

We have timed our visit to coincide with the annual Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival now in its 27th year after taking a forced break in 2020. The village residents seem to outdo themselves each year and the festival has become the highlight of the local calendar. You will find scarecrows in every corner of the village.

We have exclusive use of the hostel which has great facilities and is right in the heart of the village giving us lots of opportunity to enjoy all that Kettlewell has to offer.

The price includes a two course dinner at the hostel on the Friday, a buffet dinner on the Saturday and breakfasts each morning.

We'll also have a walk leader leading walks on both Saturday and Sunday for those that want to get out into the breathtaking beauty of the Yorkshire Dales.

These weekends are very laid back and a great chance to have a weekend away and get to meet like-minded Spice members. It’s a great starter weekend if you’ve not been away with us before - you can do as much or as little as you choose; it’s your weekend away. Be warned that our weekend breaks do often sell out so so get your booking in now to avoid being disappointed.

The music of food and drink! It may sound a bit odd, but there are plenty of popular songs that mention foodstuffs. Our next online What's the Next Line Music Game is themed on food and drink, and we will ask you to remember lyrics to songs that are named after, or refer to either a food or a drink, or maybe both! Or maybe the artist shares a name with something you might eat, such as Jason Orange, Meatloaf, or even the Spice Girls! How many can you think of? (The Peach Boys don't count!)

This year, Blue Monday falls on Monday 18 January 2021. Supposedly, it's the most depressing day of the year, according to some combination of the weather, debt levels, time since Christmas, and perhaps just the fact that it's a Monday!

On Saturday, we visited a rather snowy Crow Nest Park to test our observation skills on our fun Scavenger Hunt. After a couple of hours of exploring, and with a score of 22 out of 26, the Spice Girls were declared the winners and took home their biscuity prizes to enjoy with a nice warming cuppa! We'll let you decide who is posh, ginger, scary, baby or sporty.
