Overview

We believe you don't have to be a woman to be a feminist so this Edinburgh walking tour can be delivered by any of our local guides, depending on availability (you cannot choose though!). Discover stories of women throughout History: witches, murderers, mothers and doctors.

Begin your adventure at Maggie Dickson's pub and hear the incredible story of how Maggie Dickson survived a public execution in the early 1700s. Then, make your way to Grassmarket Community Project, a social enterprise and find our how they support vulnerable people in our community. You will also learn about the first body snatchers of Edinburgh (women) and the most successful author and Scriptwriter of the UK (also a woman). You will finish the tour at the bottom of the royal mile, hearing more stories of social enterprises that support women nowadays.

Host & Everything Else

Invisible Cities is a Social Enterprise. This means they are a social business with a social conscience. They don't believe in labels or stereotypes and want to show that everyone has great potential, a fact reflected in the tour guides.

They train people affected by homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own city and offer these alternative tours. The training focuses on confidence building, public speaking and customer service. We are delighted to be supporting these individuals and giving you the opportunity to learn about this fascinating subjects.
