Hockley Heath and Warwickshire 11 mile walk
Overview
This delightful and varied 11 mile route shows Warwickshire at its pastoral best.
Pretty villages, charming pubs, quaint churches and quirky locks on the canals. There are no steep hills and the going is good underfoot with very few boggy areas.
We head back through Hockley Heath on the Millenium Way to pass alongside Packwood Hall and St Giles Church. This leads us to Chessetts Wood, Netherwood Heath and on into the grounds of Baddesley Clinton. Passing by the church on the Heart of England Way, we enter Rowington and Turner’s Green where we will stop for lunch at the Tom O’ The Wood Inn.
We then follow the Grand Union Canal up to Kingswood Junction with its intricate network of bridges and locks, shortly after this we head cross country to the village of Lapworth and on to the Obelisk at Nuthurst.
We then return past the old Baptist church to Hockley Heath.
We will then retire to the Wharf Inn, where the coffee and cake special will be most welcome.
We are likely to be out for 5 to 6 hours.
The route is well drained in most places and good underfoot, normal walking shoes or boots should be fine. Dogs will need to be on a lead for all of the walk.
Toilets: Limited at start as Wharf opens at 12 noon. There are toilets at our lunch stop.
