Goytre Wharf Walk
Overview
This is a 7 mile moderate walk, led by John Holloway.
The walk will start at Goytre Wharf on the Brecon & Newport Canal. Leaving the Wharf by the canal towpath we will then walk through a changing landscape from open hilltops, woodland then back to the canal path . Along the way we will walk along a roman road pass through some areas that once thrived during the industrial revolution but are now back, once again, to peaceful countryside. There is also a spring with a legend attached. There are a couple of climbs - these are quite gentle but lengthy but we will take our time and rest when we need to.
The walk will probably finish around 3pm and for those who don’t need to rush off, we will find somewhere nearby for refreshments and a chat.
Please bring plenty of liquids and a packed lunch as there is not really anywhere on the route to buy food.
And it's January so please be prepared for some muddy sections. You should wear walking boots and suitable clothing for the weather on the day.
