Overview

Anyone who has been to Sheffield city centre or some of its parks in the last few weeks must have noticed the bear sculptures that have sprung up everywhere! In fact there are 60 large and 100 small bears across Sheffield.

This afternoon we will take a stroll around the city and see as many bears as we can and choose our favourite.

We'll stop for a drink or snack at some point during the afternoon (not included).

The bears have been put in place in support of Sheffield Children's - The Children's Hospital Charity and Spice will donate all the money taken from bookings on this event to this worthy cause.

Why bears? The inspiration for the bear for the theme of the trail came from the Botanical Gardens bear sculpture and through The Children’s Hospital Charity’s mascot, Theo. Theo will even have his special Theo bear sculpture along the trail. Although bears are often called grizzly, they are gentle and tolerant by nature. They can be empathetic, joyful, playful and social. The design of the sculpture is by artist David Mayne. David adapted his design of his original bear in the Botanical Gardens Bear Pit and created a smooth version for both the Big and Little Bears for the trail before they were manufactured in Darnall, Sheffield.

Includes

Your copy of the bear trail map and all takings donated to the charity.

Location & Itinerary

Is this for me?

We'll be walking around the city looking for suitable sculptures. We won't see all of them as some are well outside the city centre, but we'll hopefully get to see most of them. The distance we walk will depend on the route we take but we'll probably walk at least two miles, however as we will be in the city, it will be possible to drop out at any time.

Meeting Point

Meet by the bear (Colours by Charlie 2) in Sheaf Square

Getting There

Sheaf Square is the municipal square containing two water features just outside the main entrance to Sheffield Railway Station. It's easy to get to on public transport as the bus station is just across the road too.

See Parkopedia for Sheffield city centre parking.
