This has to be the best value break in the Spice calendar. Year after year the feedback is fantastic. This year we return to the excellent Cairndale Hotel and Leisure Club in Dumfries for a weekend of great company in great surroundings. The Cairndale Hotel is a AA 3 Star hotel situated in the market town of Dumfries and offers exceptional accommodation and facilities for the perfect Spice weekend. Dumfries is the centre of the present day Dumfries and Galloway region and it has Neolithic and Roman origins. Lying close to the English border; the history of Dumfriesshire was often bloody and turbulent. King William the Lion made Dumfries a Royal Burgh in 1186. The "Queen of the South" as it is known, is initially viewed by the visitor as a mix of the striking traditional red sandstone and pastel coloured painted houses. The River Nith flows through Dumfries on its way to the Solway Firth. In earlier centuries the town was a trading port for many parts of the world. Dumfries was home to Scotland's National Bard; Robert Burns, J.M. Barrie of ‘Peter Pan' fame, and was the site of the murder of ‘The Red' Comyn by Robert The Bruce. Castles, Neolithic cairns and stone circles and beautiful countryside abound in this area.William Wallace, Robert The Bruce, Bonnie Prince Charlie, and Robert Burns all left their mark in the History of Dumfries.

Today I want to highlight that whilst Spice changes lives for so many people is does for those behind the scenes too.  Take me as an example, I have experienced so much over the years, I have learned to ski, whack a golf ball, ride a segway and made some real friends along the way. I met the lovely Katie through Spice with the inquisitive Beth now part of the Morris clan.  Looking ahead I face my biggest challenge yet with Spice.  If you had told me six years ago my happy place would be out on a walk I'd of laughed you out of the room.  I saw a gap in the Spice programme for short, easy walks suitable for everyone so on 23 January 2014 I planned the easy Pentland's stroll.  The first walk I would lead.  I enjoyed it immensely so pressed ahead with more walks including the coast to coast, Erskine to Edinburgh via the canal paths, the Fife Coastal Path, Ben Lomond, and many Pentland hills walks. 2019 was one of my highlights, The West Highland Way - this simply reinforced my love of the hills.  Recently I was lucky enough to walk Ben Nevis with friends, all very straight forward.  This year I will be leading the Fife Pilgrims Path as training begins for Africa and the Kilimanjaro Climb in July 2021.  I am lucky enough to be part of a small team (Graeme Czeschel and Lorna McDougall so far) who attempting the 19340 ft highest mountain in Africa.  This is a Spice trip so all members from around the UK are welcome to join us.  It will be a real challenge of fitness, character and resolve but one that will live long in the memory for sure.  So, if on a meal I decide to not have the pudding as a 3rd course - as odd as that may seem don't encourage me, I influence easily where cake is concerned!  Exciting times.

Bullying is a growing problem in the world today, and every year we hear more and more incidents coming up of bullying in schools everywhere. Bullying doesn’t stop in school, though, it extends out into the home, work place and into the internet.
Bullying doesn’t tend to follow any kind of rhyme or reason, it’s merely the exertion of power over those who are weaker or stand out as unusual. Pink Day is a day dedicated to beating the bullies and breaking the cycle that creates and perpetuates this damaging behavior in schools.
History of Pink Day
Pink Day was established in 2007 after a pair of students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, saw one of their fellow students being bullied for no other reason than that they were wearing a pink shirt.
In a stroke of brilliance, these two got together and decided to show support for the student and take a stand against bullying by getting everyone at their school to wear a pink shirt the next day. Pink Day was created to stomp out all bullying and spread understanding, and it’s a concept spreading throughout the world.
