Tonight we take a circular walk around the grounds of Temple Newsam as landscaped by Capability Brown. We'll be following the Temple Newsam Trailway, circling and with regular views of Temple Newsam House.

If we get very lucky, we may just be able to sit outside the Brown Cow for a drink at the end!

Distance: 4½ miles approx.

This event is free for members. If you book and then for any reason you can't make it please let us know so we can offer the place to someone else. Do not attend if you have virus symptoms.

We must all observe the social distancing regulations. Please do not book unless you are prepared to keep a two metre distance from other walkers. We are not requiring members to wear face coverings, but you are welcome to do so if that makes you feel more comfortable. We advise that you bring gloves and hand sanitiser. Do not share food or drink or equipment such as walking poles with other walkers outside your household or bubble.

The paths of the trailway are shared with cyclists and horse riders. There are no styles. 110m of ascent.

What To Bring

Wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Meeting Point

Meet in the Temple Newsam Park - North Car Park.

If you enter from Colton Road, immediately after passing between the gate posts you should take the right fork then the car park is on your right.

If you come in on Temple Newsam Road, then continue along the road past the running track to the roundabout. Take the first exit and then immediately turn left onto the straight road. The car park is on your left at the end of the straight section.

There are several car parks. Please be sure to meet us at the right one. There is no parking charge at this one.

Getting There

Leave the M1 at junction 46 and take the A6120 (Selby Road) towards Leeds. Be in the middle lane to take the second exit from the next roundabout passing Colton Retail Centre. Keep in the left lane then and take the second exit at the next roundabout signed Halton B6159 and Temple Newsam House. Turn left at the traffic lights (signed Temple Newsam House 1) onto Colton Road. Carry on over a mini roundabout towards the park. After passing between the gate posts, immediately take the right fork and the North car park is on your right.

First bus numbers 19 and 19A run to Whitkirk. Take the Whitkirk Church stop and walk ⅔ mile along Colton Road.

The meet point is located just over a mile from Cross Gates train station, an approximate 30 minute walk.

The Spice Yorkshire Summer Ball

We now have full details of our Spice Yorkshire Summer Ball, and as promised, it will be on Saturday 17 June. We're going back to the Clayton Hotel where we had our summer party last year as we got great feedback after that event. There's no fancy dress theme this time though as this one is a ball, so dress to impress in your posh frock or dinner jacket. We have use of the large function room and have access to the outdoor area again, which is a nice bonus on a summer evening. The evening includes a welcome drink and a three-course dinner with half a bottle of wine, and then we'll dance the night away with the DJ taking us through to 1am. It's one of the highlights of the Spice Social event calendar so don't miss out!
