Evening Ramble: Cow and Calf Stampede, Ilkley
Overview
Why not split the week up and join Roy for this evening walk? The walk starts at the famous Cow and Calf rocks above Ilkley. We cross the moor past the 12 apostles stone circle to Dropping Well before skirting the Moor to return to the start point and a well earned drink in the Cow and Calf Hotel. Please dress appropriately, stout shoes or boots are recommended, warm, windproof and waterproof clothing is essential. A torch may be a good idea on an evening walk but is not essential. Lost? Late? Can’t make it? Text or ring Roy on 07801 070526 (texts have the better chance of getting through in areas of poor reception.)
Grade: 4; Distance: 4 miles approx.
Location & Itinerary
We'll be following footpaths and bridleways and these may become muddy dependent on the recent weather. It is a little hilly on the moors.
Meet in the free car park on Hangingstone Road by the cafe (this is at the opposite side of the road to the Cow & Calf Inn).
The Cow and Calf Rocks can be seen above Ilkley from the A65. If you are coming from the Leeds direction turn left at the main town traffic lights. Turn left after the zebra crossing pass the station on your left and after a short distance fork right after the tourist information office up Cowpasture Road (the Cow and Calf is signposted). Keep going up the hill and the car park is on the right before the Cow and Calf Hotel. Parking is free.
