Easy Afternoon Social Stroll from Temple Newsam Park
Overview
Come and join us for a steady and socially distanced stroll around the grounds of Temple Newsam as landscaped by Capability Brown. We will start from the Go Ape Car Park and take a circular route stopping at the new services at Skelton Lake for a drink or snack during the walk.
Do not attend if you have virus symptoms.
We must all observe the social distancing regulations. Please do not book unless you are prepared to keep a two metre distance from other walkers. We are not requiring members to wear face coverings, but you are welcome to do so if that makes you feel more comfortable. We advise that you bring gloves and hand sanitiser. Do not share food or drink or equipment such as walking poles with other walkers outside your household or bubble.
Location & Itinerary
We intend to stop part way around at Skelton Lake where there are several places to buy a drink or snack at the services.
The paths are shared with cyclists and horse riders. There are no styles.
Meet in the Temple Newsam Park - Go Ape Car Park.
If you enter from Colton Road, immediately after passing between the gate posts you should take the left fork signed to Go Ape and park near the Go Ape course.
If you come in on Temple Newsam Road, then continue along the road past the running track to the roundabout. Take the first exit and then immediately turn left onto the straight road. At At the end of the straight section carry on then turn right to the Go Ape car park.
There are several car parks. Please be sure to meet us at the right one. There is no parking charge at this one.
Leave the M1 at junction 46 and take the A6120 (Selby Road) towards Leeds. Be in the middle lane to take the second exit from the next roundabout passing Colton Retail Centre. Keep in the left lane then and take the second exit at the next roundabout signed Halton B6159 and Temple Newsam House. Turn left at the traffic lights (signed Temple Newsam House 1) onto Colton Road. Carry on over a mini roundabout towards the park. After passing between the gate posts, immediately take the left fork to the Go Ape car park.
First bus numbers 19 and 19A run to Whitkirk. Take the Whitkirk Church stop and walk ⅔ mile along Colton Road.
The meet point is located just over a mile from Cross Gates train station, an approximate 30 minute walk.
