Croquet and Cream Tea in Huddersfield
Overview
Come along and let the ladies of Golcar Croquet Club coach you to play croquet where they can teach you the basics.. If you have played before come along and have a few games. All equipment is supplied.
Croquet is an outdoor lawn game where each player uses a mallet to knock their ball through the wickets (small wire hoops) to score points. The object of the game is to be the first player to knock the ball through all the wickets and end by striking the final stake, a thin, striped pole usually placed just beyond the last wicket. Though first played by the peasantry in France in the thirteenth century, croquet became somewhat of a game of the upper class in England and Ireland in the 1800's. Now it is a game played worldwide by many people.
Afterwards we’ll enjoy a cream tea.
Please wear flat shoes and bring a waterproof jacket if appropriate.

2.15pm in the car park.
As with many areas of Huddersfield, Golcar has narrow and hilly roads with parked cars making the roads even narrower and spotting the entrance to the Cricket Club is not easy.
Coming through Golcar from Huddersfield, you will pass the Co-op on your left, the road curves to the left and shortly after you should see The Commercial pub on the left and Golcar Brewery opposite on the right. You need to turn in left, just before The Commercial (onto Ridings Lane, but it isn't labelled) -- it looks like a small terrace you are going into and the Cricket Club entrance is straight ahead. There is lots of parking beside and behind the Clubhouse...
Please note that some SatNavs (including Google Maps) will try to direct you in from the other end of Ridings Lane, but there is a gate from that direction that will stop you reaching the car park.

A great 1st event - fun, and an opportunity to easily mix informally with lots of members without being too 'full-on'
What an absolutely fun evening, I never knew there was so much to croquet especially the cunning moves to block and remove your opponent. Great night I will certainly book again.
